Battery test tone on the DF-----loud and clear!!

Opened control housing and removed battery pack.

Checked each battery as I always do when removing them and before installing new ones.

The battery pack was down to 10.6V and still gave a strong "test" signal tone in my earphones!

I have to wonder how much, if any depth is lost when using the detecter with

the power this low.

The DF is designed for 12V, but since the power starts dropping off from the moment the machine is turned on it must have a "range" of voltage that produces maximum performance.

The new batteries were 12.9V and should produce peak performance.

I'm going back to "The Cove" with its deep sand to see if the higher voltage will find more those deep targets that I have missed!

Stay tuned----------

It's not designed for 12V. It is designed to use a 12v pack but regulated to run at approximately 8v. This is so performance doesn't immediately start to drop off with a drop in voltage.

Thanks for your replies Friends!!

Rob, I'm hearing a lot about needing fresh batteries to get more depth.

It seems to me that if the DF has circuitry to regulate power to 8Volts anything over that would not affect depth and anything less would reduce the capability of the DF.

Any facts (or thoughts) you would like to share?

I have been changing batteries when I notice the "test" tone dropping off in volume.

Performance seems good even when the test tone is softer.

Regards and Thanks for sharing your knowledge Friend,

CJ

I have found there is a point where I have to increase my threshold to keep it at the background hum that I like and I lose some depth then, but then it stays constant up until the point where I start hearing a cyclical resonance from the machine and when it does that it's depth becomes only a couple inches.

was at a beach holding some deep coins battery's been in there 20hrs+ and i went home because it was just to hard digging so deep for small value coins like over 1 foot deep and they were all that deep and the DF found them so i say it doesn't matter if your getting good battery test on the machine it should be working at its best unless there is something wrong with it.
