:usaflag: Dual Field Batteries (FYI) !!

Active member
I put 2.25 hours on a new set of "Copper Tops" 11-17-09 and today 4-24-10 they have 29 Hours on them and are still working!!

Anyone know how long they are supposed to last??

Also what does the machine do (or not) when the batteries start to fail?

GL&HH Friends,

CJ

Hi C J,
I get about 25 hours on cheap batteries, you should get at least 30 to 35 hours on a good set . My D/F makes a intermitent falsing sound when the batteries start to get low , even if I raise the coil above the ground it still sounds the same.
Cheers terry.

I use 2500mah rechargables but have never run them down to flat so i don't know, amazing economy

Thanks for your replies Fellow Hunters!!

Terry I did notice two falsing signals far enough apart (a quick "bark" of sound maybe 20 minutes apart) that they got my attention, but the machine still seems to work fine.

I have new extra long life batteries waiting, but wanted to see how many hours are possible with acceptable operation (It's a "Green Thing"!)

GL&HH Friends,

CJ

I suppose that I should keep track but I just know that I am pleasantly surprised by how long the batteries last in my DF. I always have a spare set with me just in case. HH!

A lot has to due with soil condition, number of targets, machine settings, and outside air temperature. With that said, i have heard of close to 50 hrs.

I posted a battery info this week for the Radio Shack enercell batteries and have been very pleased with them. My DF Machine still has factory ones and they are working fine and have not replaced them. I know my other white's machine 300 BHID when batteries go out the machine starts running haywire and you know. By the way bought it 1/1/10 (BHID) and on third set of these bateries and use it every day.
The enercell batteries are made by the same company as the other two and include the better qualities of both. Thet have lasted forever in the BHID and at half the cost of the other high end batteries.
Try them and you will never buy any other brand for the fee they are great. I wish I had kown about them earlier while using my camera daily and having to buy them from quickie stores for an arm and leg.

Sanyo Eneloop rechargeable AA batteries also a intelligent charger like the BC900 to go with them :)

Keep going with them CJ, it will save us all doing it and would be handy to know. The problem with rechargables is they have a slow self discharge(other than eneloop type) even if not used so any timing i did wouldn't be of much use as to true battery life unless i did it all in one go(at 30 hour plus i would surely conk out first:biggrin: )

When you turn on the detector the sound/volume is an indicator of the battery level. As long as you can here it well you're good to go. It is mentioned in the manual and is indicated on the control box as Battery Check if I'm not mistaken.

After a long lifetime of working with many different kinds of testers and using metal detectors I have found that even though batteries may test within specs they sometimes don't have quite enough power for the device to produce optimum performance!! My Excal is a case in point. When the power starts to "drop off" the machine's responsiveness seems to start dropping off.

The DF "Battery Test" setting gives a good signal and the operation hasn't noticeably dropped off, but there is an occasional beeping (Falsing) that is supposed to be a tell tale sign of diminished battery power as I understand it. Falsing hasn't occurred with fresh batteries.

I plan to run 'em dry to see just how far they will go and I'll pass on the results,

CJ

I'm a Dual Field user of 3 years and haven't experienced the falsing that you mention. Maybe you're swinging too fast, or the conditions of your location have changed. Try a new set of batteries, if the falsing stops you have the answer.
