:usaflag:....how many metal detector hobbyists there are in the USA? Or at least a ballpark figure? I bet if we all knew just how many there are, it would surprise us. I'm am also curious as to how many AT Pros are being manufactured to keep up with the demand. How many more of us are out there really..

How many? now that is curious. Good question . How many people detect around my area ? but I have only been at it for 4 months , so I havnt came across alot of them, only a few, but they are out there I know, If u live in a very historical part of the USA, Like I do , they be all over probably. I am just getting my feet wet at dtecting , but the thought of how many folks have been hunting for treasures before me melts my butter. I consider myself a true dtecting hobby boy and not a failure. How many more of us are out there?

I think a LOT! My local Borders Books carries Lost Treasure mag and if I don't get there quick, it's sold out! That's my 'exhibit A'. Plus, I've seen a guy detecting some of the ball fields near me but never been able to have time to talk with him..'B'. Then there's the Craigslist guy who was selling a Tejon that I was interested in, he hunts all over and even lurks the forums without posting..'C'. Then there are the occaisional folks I run into who know somebody that detects..'D'. THEN there is the THRONG of people (club) I ran into at a local lake last July 5, which apparently only one visits the same forums I do..'E'. And on and on it goes! We're just the ones who are most willing to talk about our hobby I think. Which reminds me, one of those guys is probably out there finding my stuff!! I gotta go.....

I don't know nation wide, but there are 3 local clubs of about 50 to 200 members here, but some are members of more than one club. It would be very hard to get a really accurate count. Onus

WOW thats a tuff one.. Id estimate maybe
a few hundred thousand around the country then again
what do I know???Im one of em is all i Know !!!.!!!!!

It may never by known. Some have got so good at being inconspicuous that they have become like the shadow people that Art Bell used to talk about on late night radio. You think you see someone metal detecting out of the corner of your eye but when you turn and look they are gone.

It has been 24 days since the close of the 2010 metal detecting season.

I'm sure someone in the industry paid to get an idea of how many of us are out there, just try and get the data though. If you look at the last few years you'll notice advertising for detectors has gone up a lot. Just look at some of the outdoor supply catalogs. Used to be an occasional "toy" detector, now you see Infiniums in them.

There are 430,000 in East Baton Rouge Parish (County). I have seen a few hunting near the Port Hudson battlefield but have never seen anyone hunting in the city. There must be many hunters in the city because there was a lot of silver in the ground in the 1970,s. I dug a lot then but can't find any now.

attended a seminar in may 2010. in two days there were 58 attending. that was just the one. the instuctor holds classes through-out the year. don't know how many he's held but class size says there's alot of folks in the greater portland , or. area. the pop. is around 1 million. seattle to the north has around 4 mil. nyc 23, l.a. 24mil. we're surrounded. :surrender:re

Is 430,000 the whole population of the parish, or is that the number of detectorists? I would say "Holy Crap..I'm moving !!"
