Back on page 3 of this Forum, when I posted this picture as a solution to the coil movement problem I had used this solution on other coils with no adverse affects.

The White's Dual Field coil is made with thinner/softer material than the coils I had braced this way in the past.

It's very evident that a pad must be placed between the end of the PVC tube and the coil to protect the coils surface!

This is damage from two years of use.

This surface suffers a lot of pressure when I balance myself against the coil while digging!

This pad is from the same plastic cutting board I used to repair and re-enforce the ear of the mounting point I broke.

I cut a slight recess for the end of the tube to fit into for more security at that point.

It is "Shoe-Gooped" into place and the tube end is strapped with an electrical plastic tie strap as well for maximum stability and strength.

This should last for a few hundred more miles!!

I applaud your desire to improve your detectors performance but I don't understand why you don't just use the standard coil support. I've bought and made my own for years and they work well and I'm sure they are lighter than you design with less drag. They are easy to make, and cheap to buy ($9.95). Use just about any plastic, lexan, plexiglass, etc. about 1/8" thick plus or minus. If you want a little less drag moving the coil thru the water you can bore a large hole in the center as shown in the 2nd picture.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your information. The brace is to hold the coil secure and stable as I use the lower rod/coil to steady myself while I stand on my digger and wiggle the handle forcing the scoop down between the small boulders we have under the sand along Connecticut's shore.

Drag is no problem with the small diameter PVC Tube and it helps me pace my swings for slow coverage too.

I made a heavy duty version of the device you use and in a few hunts I had managed to break one of the coil ears off, by shifting my position while I put pressure on the coil. (All of this is explained complete with pictures on page 3 as I recall.)

This combo is a special purpose one that would be unnecessary for most hunting conditions elsewhere.
