The shaft is aluminum and due to the short coil cord I had to keep all the parts jammed close together, but it is still a huge improvement comfort wise over the origional!!

Take a look at how I anchored the coil to keep it at the angle I prefer.

A piece of 1/2" pvc pipe and two plastic electrical ties and a bit of electrical tape and it is secured.

Nice looking Job there! I surprised more Excal owners don't do there own...Long shaft for it, cost about 25 dollars, { speedymetal on Ebay, Alum tube 7/8inch OD x .049 wall 6061 15 dollars..shipped ........Bike shop , End Bar Handle 10 dollars for 2} or you can go with the what ever you can find at the thrift store...Either way ..It is a very easy convert....Check out stillhunting convert on the Headphones in the beach forum, that is one of the other great investments on the Excal...Good Luck...Nice Job Cj...Obn

I bought the 8' length of tube at a local hardware store after trying Lowe's, Home Depot, True Value and two other hardware stores in the area without success.

I had enough to make a shaft for the Excal and also for my Infinium!

It helps to have a few tools and know how to use them.

The earphones on my Excal are just fine as far as I can tell.

I have used them many times since I got the machine and so far they are just what I would have wanted.

They are the older Green colored set.

Thanks for your info.
