:usaflag: Aerial Photos-Kansas Tornado ~ WOW, a real hay maker

If it is not tornados, it is floods. A tornado passed just north of us, hitting Bennington Lake, one person killed. The west side of the lake, all cabins are either gone or damaged. Here in town, we flooded, we had over 8 inches of rain within a 24 hour period.

I will be in our local paper on Friday, this is because one car tow company went beyond reasonable practice, they were hooking cars without permission and hauling them to their storage lot... but their storage lot was flooded... so they put the cars there anyways, my son's car was a victim of this, his car was on private property when this company hooked it on Sunday morning... I tried to get the car out but they refused, said they were closed and their lot was flooded, I about blew a gasket... little did we know but the flooding was to get a whole lot worse.... We were not allowed to get the car until Tues morning, we arrived, and they refused to let us see the car, told us we had to pay 275.00 CASH before we were allowed to see the car or inspect it, I raised hell, in turn, they gave me a new bill for 245.00 and later claimed they took 50.00 off storage fees... (I dont know who does their math) Long story short, we had to pay it, but the car is a total loss... the inside of the car is filled with river water, the car wont run, the leather seats are in horrible condition, and the new baby needs a new car seat already! We never called for a tow, this company just did it...

I dont know what ya all pay for tow service, but here the average bill is about 90.00 for all, a hook fee is 40.00 but this company charged 120.00 hook fee.

The local paper is furious about what has happend, they called me and asked for an interview tomorrow for Fridays paper...

Our floods was on the front page of msn, weird to see my home town on my start up news page...

Greensburg is a mess.. the people are not sitting around waiting for help, they have already began the cleanup and are working to try to get their town back, I dont know if it will work, but everyone is thinking of them.

State Farm insurance was there the next day handing out cash and checks to victims, as of today, 85% of their victims have been paid out..

... If I were you, I'd hire a good attorney and make that tow operator buy you a replacement car, in same or better condition, plus pay for the inconvenience as well as reimburse you for the charge they made you pay. As Vernon suggests, a class action suit might be in order there too.

If the tow company was hired by the city to clear the public right of ways of vehicles, you may have to go after the city as well since the car was on private property ... I assume with permission. If not with permission, and the land owner had your car towed, you are likely out of luck.

Regardless, if that's a local tow company, the bad publicity of their inappropriate, possibly illegal actions, taking advantage of citizens during a natural disaster, in a small town ... will (should) likely drive them out of business.

We dont get tornados all the time, I been in Kansas most my life and have only been in one tornado.... think of the treasures they spread... OK dont think about it  It is very rare to have a tornado as large as the one that got Greensburg. Most tornados hit open country.

The local paper called and I did an interview with them, on Sunday, the company told me that they had towed 64 cars, I dont know if all the cars went into their storage lot... but I got pictures... see reply to Ed...

Well, the private property was a car wash, that was not being used that day and the company was closed, they did not call, the tow company claims the police called for a tow, the police said they did not tell them to tow the car off public property, but off the street...

When I went to get the car Tuesday, the owner of the company smirked and made a comment that he hopes we have really good insurance, and I told him he better hope he has really good insurance, he told me to prove his lot was flooded, I told him I had pictures, he got angry and asked me how the hell I got pictures when they couldnt even get to the building on Monday, I simply explained that I walked through the water to get there :yo:

The first picture is of the part of the lot I took from a distance, you really couldnt get real close, but the owner dont need to know that! You can see the water under the cars, what the picture does not show is as of Monday morning, the water was 10 feet higher, my pictures came when the water was receding.

This picture is of my sons leather passenger seat, I put my initals in it to show the river silt

The last photo is of the center console and gear shift that was under water leaving silt, the one thing I cant share with you is the smell... that horrible dead fish smell...

Well, I do hope that the tow company has really good insurance because I do have a really good attorney. :bouncy: and yes, we would like to get the other victims into a class action.

Well, I am going to have to go and get the baby a new car seat, hers was in the car and everything that was in the car is a total loss.

The Tornado that hit Greensburg KS was bad.I heard that we have all ready had more Tornado's this year so far than we had in all of last year.
Last year was so dry and this year is so wet.

Sorry to hear of your troubles, I hope that the Tow Co. has to pay all of the people that lost a car in that flood.
Take care my friend.

How are things in your neck of the woods?

Found a video of our town on you tube... the video starts with these stupid people getting onto I-35 north bound, that back in there is where the tow company is! Their neighborhood that they film is flooded by the water that went by the tow company about a mile west of them, they drive on I-70 east bound to exit on 9th street, and they did that early in the flooding because the city did block off many of the ramps to I-35 and I-70... but it is people like that who drive through the waters on the streets that cause the water to get deeper into our basements... their home (that area of town) the homes are built on slabs with no basements, so they didnt care about others, like me, who did have basements...

I've been through there, twice. Looked like a nice place.

I say get the tow truck drivers, and the owner/manager of that tow company, a bunch of 15' wooden poles, and go out to the nearest corn/wheat/sunflower field. Take the poles, run the folks through where the sun don't shine, and make some new scarecrows for the farmers.

That bad luck cloud seems to hang around you..I wish it would leave you alone. I hope that life gets better for you all in the future..
The sad thing is, we are just getting started into Tornado season.
And it looks like its going to be a wet year.

Take Care my friend.

I dont think small towns like me. I would move to Wichita if not for the fact my older parents need us to help care for them, and my grandson would be here. Plus there is an elderly couple we are very close to and we help them out with things they need done around their house... so I am stuck here for a while...

Wet weather does have its advantages... they help with the ground signal :detecting:
