Early yesterday morning I was approached by a fellow while I was hunting the dry sand for the day's coffee money.
He told me a local law officer suggested he contact me to help find a silver ring that had been lost the evening before.
Several people searched for it in the dim street light of early evening and had even used a rake to try and find it with no luck.
The policeman who knew about me happened on the scene and that's how I got involved.
The ring had some sentimental value for a young fellow that in the heat of an argument threw it down onto the asphalt road so hard it bounced into some grass by the road.
His girlfriend (future wife??) would only forgive hime if he found the ring as she had given it to him.
I assured the older gentleman who approached me in the young man's behalf that I would stop be in a short while to search for it.
When I got there a short while later the fellow pointed to a fairly small area of road side grass and I fired up the little Ace 250 as he re-entered his house.
Three or four brief swings of the coil (no more than twenty seconds had passed!) and a sweet little bell tone anounced that there was something down in the grass and my Garrett's Pin Pointer allowed me to quickly retrieve a nice heavy Cladish band.
I called the good Sameritan who was only doing a favor for a very up-set young man, handed him the ring and wished him a great day!!
This is the first silver ring I located for the owner, but I have managed to return thirty three gold rings to people who had lost them.
A great way to start the day!!
