Some years ago, when I was in my mid-fifties, I attended a professional conference in New Hampshire that offered a three day weekend of seminars and workshops for professional development. The seminars were often very crowded requiring one to get in a seat early or to scramble to find one later.
I managed to get seated early for one popular seminar and a pretty, young woman was squeezing past me to the vacant seat two seats farther down the row from me when she lost her balance and ended up seated in my lap! As a healthy gent in his mid-fifties I was pleasantly surprised to have a warm, shapely young female parked in my lap. It was over all too soon as she managed to regain her footing. Embarrassed and apologizing she took her seat. As she did so I caught a glimpse of her name tag and realized that she was from the same small town, three hours drive away, that I live in. Later, I introduced myself and we had a laugh over what had happened and the coincidence of us being practically neighbors and meeting under such odd circumstances.
Over the subsequent years we have encountered one another several times in our travels in this small town and have chuckled over her embarrassing moment. I heard she was active in local politics and was running for First Selectman (Woman), the local equivalent of a Mayor.
One day when I dropped into the local convenience store for my afternoon coffee, the proprietor introduced me to a lovely young lady who is the daughter of the lady politician. I warmly smiled and told her that I knew her Mother and wished her well in the up-coming election. I also told her to tell her mom that if she (her Mom) wanted my vote she would have to sit in my lap again! The puzzled expression on her pretty face caused me to laugh out loud and I suggested she ask her Mom about it.
At dinner that evening, her Mom told me later, when we once again had occasion to meet, the daughter relayed what I had said and asked,
