My 9 X 12 coil came through the mail today. Talk about a kid a Christmas...I got to put the batteries back in my Ace 250 and do some air tests. Very impressed with the increased depth...even if it is just an air test.

So now this is my Garrett arsenal. The only things missing are a DD and SEF coil. Maybe someday, but I'm pretty damn happy right now !

Thanks to Joe in MD for the sweet deal. He even mailed the coil out before the money got to him. I could have waited until he got paid, but I'm glad that there is a certain amount of trust left in the world.

I'm thinking I should pack it all away again before I break out the pick-axe and head for my backyard.

You could still take it out and see how it sounds. Mark things for when it thaws out, unless you get a real good hit, then it's pick-axe time!

John

I like your idea John but there is almost 4 feet of snow in some spots in my town. More specifically in my backyard..

Dave and thanks for the compliment. Don't let the frozen ground spot you. I'll be out tomorrow it's been snowing today and only going to get in the LOW 30's tomorrow. I hunt the woods at this time of year, the ground doesn't freeze in there.
Thanks again
JOE in MD
P.S.
Nice little arsenal you have there!!

McDave, your scenery looks just like mine. We have about the same amount of snow, and probably going to get another 6 or 8 inches in the next few days. I was taking the garbage out yesterday and the snow was hard for a few steps...until it suddenly my feet broke through and I was thigh deep! This is my first winter as a detectorist, and I can't believe how impatient I am feeling! Maybe I should get my detector out and do some air tests too, heck it would be nice just to hear it beep!

How's the temperature down there this winter? I can't really complain, it has been pretty mild with the average temp being in the -15 to -20C (-4F) range. Probably have some really cold days in Feb.

Anyway nice arsenal of Garrett stuff!

Dave, you have a lot more snow then we do here - KEEP IT! You could always do like others and check sledding hills.

John

Well...it's 18 above now, but at 7am it was -13 F. And it's going to be another very cold night...probably closer to -20. And then you need to factor in the wind chill.

It is snowmobile heaven this year. The Arrowhead snowmobile trail runs right through and down our alley during the winter....about 30 feet from my back door. It would be nice to have a sled but there's no money for it. And besides..those suckers break down all the time. If I were smart I would open a repair shop in my garage during the winter. I would make a small fortune selling Arctic Cat oil and belts to those guys.

Yeah, was -6 here in Michigan this morning. Calling for light snow the next few days. I might have to put the batteries back in one of the detectors and go check the sledding hill in town after the weekend. Got a bad itch to get out.

John

It was the 9x12 coil that got my wife going with here Ace 250. Up until that point she really struggling with it. The Ace is her first detector. For some reason, the 9x12 really clicked with her and now she finds as much as I do with the Grand Master Hunter. It has got to the point to where it is a matter of who covers the ground with the best targets. She has not taken it off since the day I put it on.

We got snow last two days but nothing like in your photos! I never hunt in the snow. I also never order new gear when I know I can't use it!

What state do you live in anyway?

Chris

Chris, I live up in northern Minnesota, about 100 miles north of Duluth. About as close to the arctic circle as any sane person would want to be....(sorry Canada).. Last spring I was detecting by the end of march. Not so sure about this year.

And I bought it because the guy only wanted $45 for a "used one time" coil. If I had passed it up it would have been sold within minutes. I gotta work on that impulse shopping...:super:

Wow, that is alot of money for the coils when u add it up. Way more then the Ace alone. But if U want to play u gotta pay good luck with your detectors McDave

Ya got a good buy. This morning I had my first real urge in a long time that I wanted to metal detect. I was going to the store early and a radio show came on that is usually playing when I drive on the way to a summer morning hunt. I usually start in earnest around mid march.

i bought my 9x12 months ago. used it for about ten minutes. couldn't handle the weight. bad shoulders. sold it for $30.00 to a fellow member last week.
at least he got to try it out before he bought it. we live in the same area. he was doing great with just the standard coil. God only knows how much better he's gunna be now.

HH

Actually I'm surprised that it was'nt heavier. And I don't know that I would have bought the 9 X 12 otherwise. I just could'nt pass up the price.

My stock coil has been a knock-out at finding coins. So much so that I barely use my Sniper, except for very trashy areas of a certain park that I frequent.

I guess I am more interested in older, deeper coins, rather than plucking as much clad as humanly possible in a short period of time.

McDave if you had a Polaris you wouldn't break down as much. LOL
Sold our sleds 2 years ago and now we have snow.
