:usaflag: A Couple Of Years Ago I Got An Old Excaliber With The "Horse Shoe Crab Shaped" Coil!!

I haven't used it a lot because I mostly hunt with PI machines. Today I hunted with it just above the water line at our local beach and boy does this thing love aluminum nuggets!!!

I left after two hours O swingin with two pennies and a quarter I found laying on top of the sand by sight!

I also had a dozen or so tiny (some large) bits of aluminum that the little coil really responded to.

One piece of 1/2" copper tubing 8" long from 10" - 12" deep and the sensitivity to the tiny al. nuggets tells me that the "crab" coil is doing a good job, but I think I would like to convert to an 8" or 10" coil.

I don't know if that is a good idea or possible with an older Excal so I thought I would ask those of you with more "Excal Savy" than I!!

Many thanks for any and all replies,

CJ

Yea, you can put any Sovereign coil on it. Some like the WOT or the stock 10" coil. That old horseshoe coil is loved by some. One guy even uses it as his land coil as I think he said it's very stable. If it were me I'd put a 10" Tornado on it or a 12x10. I found the 15x12 was too much drag in the water. Some like the WOT but I don't know if it would be too much drag for me like the 15x12. Others love the S-12.

CJ - I'd keep that coil if I were you. One of my dealer friends has been looking for one, and tells me that they are in demand by longtime Excal users. Another detecting buddy used one for over 15 years and loved it.
