:usaflag:I could'nt wait for the lousy weather to pass.So I headed south for the new hunting grounds. As usual I went in there with high expectations and left after 2-1/2 hours disappointed and defeated. I've never seen so many pull-tabs in my life. It seemed like I could'nt go anywhere and not have my Ace sounding off like an alarm. I would get a quarter tone..pull-tab. Nickel...pull-tab. Penny...pull-tab. Never got a single dime tone at all. And plenty of old bottle caps and just as many new ones..all chiming in as coins. I was flustrated....I think I actually found about 80 cents in clad..A dogtag..for a dog. And a small key. I wondered how Garrett can claim that it's detectors won't chime in on these objects if you notch them out. It just is'nt true. Same goes for nails and tacks. I'm certainly not giving up on this place...maybe the sniper will behave better. Anyways..here are some pic's of the area I was sweeping today.

And I damn near forgot about this little item that I dug out of the Lion's Club area the same day as my other finds. I thought it was an old padlock of some kind. It was covered in dirt and roots when I found it, and I brought it home and left it on the porch and forgot about it. Got around to cleaning it and discovered it is an old pocket watch? Anybody ever seen one like this? Would be nice to know how old it is.

I like that park but it doesn't look like it gets a lot of traffic.Maybe the sniper coil will do a better job.HH

You are right. This end of it does'nt see a lot of traffic. The other end has a modern and very big playground. I could dig clad until I'm blue in the face over there, but I'm more interested in old and silver coins. This park also hosts the yearly "Land of the Loon" festival in june. So there should be coins everywhere. And yes I think the Sniper might fair better, we'll have to wait and see.

Better luck next time.:wiggle:There's not a detector made(Garrett or any other brand)that isn't fooled by older, corroded, rusty bottle caps and such. The corrosion/rust increases the conductivity/reading and therefore it chimes in the coin range. I understand how you got frustrated, though. I never have high hopes hunting anywhere. That way, when I find something nice it's a pleasant surprise. If a place to too incredibly trashy, some times you just need to take your time and clean out the trash to find the goodies beneath. Best of luck to ya!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

Maybe in all that clad there is a gold ring or a gold "something."
I love finding clad. I just throw it in a bowl until I have enough to buy
a gallon or two of badly needed gas for the car.

I hit a place like that the other day with a DD coil where there must have been 1000 bottlecaps and I found 999 of them before I threw in the towel. With all the space - age electronics available today one would think some bright soul would dream up a method to eliminate all these pesky targets. A 3-D display of the target would work. I know the Army was working on a mine detector with those capabilities but haven't heard much about it lately.

I bet we have all been in that same situation... My first old park was one bottle cap after another. I was in shock. THAT many people have gotten drunk in the park and just tossed their pull tabs and bottle caps to the ground? Anyways, I was about to give up after about 10 minutes but then notched out everything except dimes, quarters, halves and dollars and also turned the sensativity down and finally I could hit solid coins. Ended up with about $10 in clad. Nothing old but it made the day more enjoyable for sure.
