From an article I read about 20 years ago... from what I can remember. They aren't accepting orders for most Silver Coins; therefore, ya might want to hold on to your silver found &/or collected! Read oncerning it several times before posting! Ma
From an article I read about 20 years ago... from what I can remember.
1. The 'Hunt Brothers' cornering of silver futures in the early 80s drove up silver prices so high that much of the family heirloom, jewelry, etc. was sold off. (read as not as much available now)
2. All the smaller mines opened during that time closed after US Government managed to end Hunt Brothers manipulation of silver market. Most of those mines and even some larger operations remain closed for 30 years or more.
3. Silver prices are driven by different factors than Gold or other precious metals. Silver is used in so many manufacturing processes. So, the economy being in the dumper for how many decades now???
4. Now that in the last year or so a rebound in industrial demand for silver is up... Small mines and even some larger operations are still closed. (the cost is too much to reopen, while market remains volatile). Secondary supplies of heirloom, jewelry and other family silver was dried up by the silver price surge in early 80s. (no longer as available)
The supply and demand is rather lopsided and I am too poor myself, or I would have bought up as many American Liberty (sic) .999 dollars as possible about 2.5 to 3 years ago when silver was bottomed out.
"from what I can remember"
IMHO
I don’t believe the mint at all. They probably are not good at taking individual orders from us. If you call them you can’t get through to speak to someone.
Also these are a limited edition around 150,000 each type, not difficult amounts at all.
Maybe, I am wrong but I bet the prices will go up to the consumers. Good luck to all of you who want to add these to your collection. They are a nice looking coin.

Missouri, you must get a day off from preaching, so go detecting on your day off.Big Tony: Yes--By the U.S. Mint saying scarcity on silver--more collectors will buy & pay at higher prices! I don't collect any longer & haven't for years--joblessness & illnesses took their toll & I pay by check, credit cards or use my bank account to pay on line; so no change received to look through nor keep for collecting & adding to my collections! Lost interest after I quit detecting & two brothers died (2007 & 2009!) Now just to try & keep myself feeling like living longer is all I can do & serve Jesus, as God has called me forth to do & I am slowly failing at that--mind & body too weak & forgetful! God Bless & Please let us ev eryone continue in PRAYER for fighting the good fight of faith as God's fervant praying saints for ourselves, our families, our nation, THE USA & the world--SINS ABOUND BUT God's Morals & Righteosness Abound More! Amen! Ma
LT, yeah we all need new spots to detect the old stuff. The worst silver shortage I've noticed is what's left in the ground.
I agree that most Silver is still underground, lost or not mined!!Missouri, you must get a day off from preaching, so go detecting on your day off.
