US buckle or helmet plate? ?

Dirtbag Kevin

Out here in the stormy San Francisco bay area today hunting an old 1850s park and I came across this little guy about 9" down under a root. Any idea what it is? It appears to be some sort of plate or buckle but Im not sure.

Thanks.

Kevin.

Kevin..........Sorry to say it is the side of an 1870s-1880s brass padlock. I have found two sides like that, but no complete lock. From researching, what I found it is an E. T. Fraim US marked lock, but is not a US government padlock. Still very cool to find old items like this.

Still a nice find!

I have found a few of them to , just the plates. Just think in a 100 years from now they all well say made in China lol . sube
