Me and my family went to Colorado for Thanksgiving. My friend tells me about a lake that is now dry because of the drought. I checked it out on-line and read the town rules. There is no rules against metal detecting. I then do an ebay and Google search for pictures and post cards. I found plenty of early 1900's photos of the lake and Depot. One post card shows that the lake was used for boating and fishing. I'm sure swimming too. I only had time to go by the lake right at dusk. I was able to walk out in the lake with no problem. I wished I had time to hunt it. I believe the lake was formed when the train tracks were build in the late 1800's. I believe this would be a great place to find some treasure. I'm letting you all know because if they get some spring rains and snow melt the lake will fill up. The lake is called Palmer Lake. The town is named Palmer Lake. Good luck and let me know what you all find?!!

Good on ya for a great tip.

I got to thinking last night that I may have given up some other hunters "Honey Hole" If this is the case I'm sorry to those hunters. I do hope some fellow treasure hunters find some great stuff and send me 49% of it!

Hey Kenny,

Thanks so much for lead on the dry lake near Colorado Springs. I went out there today, Tuesday, for a couple of hours. It's almost winter here in Colorado but temps were in the 50s so not too bad. Next week we will be in the 30s for highs !!

Palmer Lake has been hit pretty hard. I saw signs of digging all along the shore and in the lake bed. There were two other decetorists working the lake while I was there. They said they had found Ice Cutting tools in the lake bed, but since it was a No Boating and No Swimming lake mostly it was tin cans and fishing lead.

Which is exactly what I found. Still, it was a good experience and I learned more about my AT Gold and what a great machine it was. Sure beats chasing foil signals in the park :)

Thanks again for the lead.

The lake has a no boating and no swimming sign up now. But in the early days I believe they let both swimming and boating at the lake. There is a ton of historic photos and post cards on the net and ebay. I still believe there is jewelry there. It looks like the West side of the lake was the most used in the early days. Then the use shifted to the east in the later years. Plus the grassy areas just west of the tracks should hold silver too. Don't give up.

In the latest issue of Western & Eastern Treasures there is a cool story about a lake that was drained in Denver and a lot of great stuff was found there, some of it by detecting, but a lot of it was found deeper by digging and sifting of the lake bottom.

Palmer Lake may be so silted in that you'll have to go deep for the GOLD. They may clean the silt out of it before it fill back up? If so then you need to follow the trucks!!
