Upper shaft has been sliding out....

for about a year and hasn't really gotten any worse until now. Now it's got some side to side wobble. I stuck a pull tab on one side of the shaft then slipped the shaft on and it stopped the wobble. Am I going to have to send this thing back to Minelab or is there something I can do?

wrap the upper shaft with electrical tape 1 or 2 wraps then slide in and lock.
Said it worked for his shaft without the new dimple on it.

I got one upper rod that started doing it, unfortunately its one with the X1 probe on it, so cant just throw my spare rod on.. anyway I just pit one wrap of electrical tape around the part that goes into the control box, and it stays put

Seat your shaft all the way into the housing as
far as it will go and mark it with a pencil.
Remove the shaft and slip a small rubber balloon
over it down to your pencil mark. Snip off the
end and reassemble. Mine has not moved in almost two years after the fix. Check for cracks in the housing,"wobble" does not sound good. HH

Make sure your upper shaft is going about 2" deep the the control housing. Then, if you still have wobble, follow Tracy's advice. The balloon trick has always worked for us. Tape adhesive can eventually start to separate from the tape material and leave a mess, attract dirt, etc. I presume your XS doesn't have the updated upper shaft with the dimple? Try the balloon, it works. New Explorer II's have an angled insert end to better hold in place. Another "fix" from Minelab, and apparently a good one. Take care and good hunting, David @ Dixie
