Upper rod

My upper rod keeps sliding out of the control housing and the neoprene grip has split after three hours of use.. What should I do?

The upper rod should be inserted about 1" into the control box,you may want to mark the upper shaft 1" from the end of it to insure that it is getting inserted fully.

It is fully inserted....still falls out after a period of detectiing..Next

How about wrapping the upper 2 inches of the rod with tape,a little at a time till it is a snug fit?
Did you find anything good Monday?

If you rod isnt staing put, then somethings wrong and you should send it in for repair

When you flip the cam lock how hard is it to lock?? It should be a tight fit when it locks, if not look at the lock to see it is working or a piece broke.

I thought that it was supposed to go in 2". Mine does. It wants to stop after about an inch but if you jiggle it a little it will go in another inch.

Hi,
Ok checked the fit and it does go in two inches. I checked the cam again and it closes properly. The rod just seems too loose in fit. It is not just falling out but does work down after a few minutes of detecting. It just does not fit tightly enough. I guess I will send it back for repair. More down time.....This unit is a very new one and I bet, based on what I read on cracking, that Minelab has made the fit looser to keep the cracking problem to a minimum. Will not crack but will not stay in either...It would logically seem that lessening the tension would lead to less cracking. Oh well...If I add tape will that void the warranty?

The best thing is to send it back to Minelab and get it changed. Mine fits in nice and snug and theres no way itll come out. The plastic is a different material and its more resistant to breaking. Those who have had it done you can notice a slight difference in shade but its nothing. The crack problem is solved

Stephen-upper rod should slide into control housing 2 inches.

How far should the unit collapse? The manual says to 43" but I measure around 45". I can't get the upper shaft cam lock any closer than 2.9" to the top rivet on the lower shaft. I have a hellava time trying to get the unit into the stock Minelab bag that comes with it. If only they had made the zipper a couple of inches longer. Looks like I might have to invest in a new bag but think I'll complain to Minelab first. Otherwise, I have no complaints.
