UPGRADED MY SILVER UMAX

Well-known member
Thanks to sven , my silver Umax now has a ground balance ( lower right) and a Togle to use manuel ground balance, or fixed and it apllys to the disc mode , Whats the diff, well now on just a 1 gain i can get a U,S dime at 6" air test and in disc it maxes out at about 6.6" to 6.3/4" but it is in the all metal that it really kicks , because I can get the dime @ 8" and soft at 9" the GB will make a real deference to when changing coils , like the new sharpshooter .

Congrats on the upgrade.Thats the reason I ordered the Vaq.was because of the ground balance. Its suppose to be here tom.weather permiting.I sure hope it gets here.HH

Take some time to learn the Vaquero, when i owned one it did good in the nails and Got good depth - I have yet to learn the silver , that will take some times out with it

I know you guys are curious to what I did for Gunnars Silver.

It was lacking in depth, I was able to boost depth by min of 2" by changing out some parts.
This also slowed down the motion needed to swing the Silver, still retains target separation if swung fast.
Makes for a very nice hunting speed.
I added a external Tesoro 3 3/4 turn ground balance pot and removing the 1 turn trimpot on the circuit board.
Added a toggle switch so you can use fixed GB or manual. Gunnar will have no problems now switching from
different coil makes.
I did have to tidy up some of Tesoro solder joints where the wires connect to the circuit board.
When I was happy with the way things looked, re-assembled the Silver.

Would not advise anyone to attempt this mod unless you have steady hands and the proper equipment.
You can easily mess something up.

Oh, that has to be one sweet machine. The Silver µMax has the best audio response of them all. My Favorite!

I usually only do mods for myself or for friends.
Time consuming and usually not cost effective to the owner since
shipping to Canada and return shipping is generally more than most would be willing to pay.
For anyone that wishes to attempt the mod or have some one local do it I will post the PDF file on my website
bottom of page shortly. http://www.treasurelinx.com/mods_2.html

Yes now I can tune in fast on any coil I put on this silver , thats the problem you have without a GB is the coil will be off exempt the one on it to start with I put the shooter on it today and quickly tuned it in with the GB and that shooter is sweet now and you can swing it very slow and get a nice signal , I mean ridiculously slow , but yet can swing fast as well . if all that is done is the GB its a big improvement . or just step up to the outlaw . but again I can't stress this enough if you are going to be changing coils you really need a GB it makes a big difference

Gunnar, how would you compare your upgraded Silver to the Outlaw you had?
Happy Hunting, Mike

same depth as the outlaw ,but not as versital, as the outlaw I would rather have an outlaw , for its no motion all metal and nice threshold all metal , but the silvers Disc all metal is really nice . would be nice to see a silver with ED 180 and GB and a threshold all metal , but this thing should do extremely well as a general mid depth searcher finder machine like thing. love its simplicity , Modulation on deep targets, and seems to be stronger on high conductors for sure,

One word Gunnar- "SWEET!!!!!"

Bet you can't wait until the ground thaws!

Rainy, Its not thawing it was 25 below this mooring and thats not a wind chill, I must be patient. that sharpshooter coil really tunes in nice now and can really get in between Iron.

Sven does great work & is a real good fella.
