Upgrade Question

I know there is probably a post somewhere in the forums about this, but I have been looking and can't find anything specific. Anyway, I have been a Sov GT user for a little while. I have the 15" WOT with it and hunt the beach (I live in a beach town in NJ). I love the machine and I don't think I miss much - I have dug up dimes at close to 3 feet on many occasions so I know I have the depth. My question is, should I upgrade/change to an Etrac or Explorer (if money is not the question)? Am I missing something by staying with the GT? What would I gain by switching? I know there are probably a number of people on here who have used multiple machines and have the experience to answer this. Keep in mind, I am on the beach 99% of the time (if not more). Thanks for any input.

For beach hunting I'd say keep the GT. The E-Trac is a fantastic coin shooter for parks, schools and the likes, but it wouldn't do any better than the GT on the beach or relic hunting.

If you're finding dimes at 3 feet, I'd stay with your GT, and maybe purchase a more accurate ruler. :heh: Like SouthWind said, there's no advantage to the Explorers/E-Tracs on the beach. In fact, the GT is much lighter/hip-mountable, which is an advantage swinging in the wet/dry sand.

I used a sovereign/wot combo for years and now use an explorer 2 with the WOT coil. If you do the beaches 90% of the time I'd stick with the Sovereign.

Maybe "many" occasions is the wrong word but it has happened several times. I know it sounds ridiculous and I wouldn't expect it off the beach in parks, but my buddy and I have it marked on our shovels (I don't use a scoop) for depth. Some of the holes seem to go on forever until that coin pops out and you have to dig because you're never really sure what it is until you see the target. Since I stay on the beach (it's right down the street from me) I think I will keep the GT and maybe get something different if I start to hit other areas just as much. Thanks for the input. It's tough to know these things without the actual detector and it's a huge help to get the advice of people with a lot more experience than me.

Everyone else has already said it but I will too. Stick with the Sovereign! I have both machines and they both work great at the beach and everywhere else for that matter but hunting at the beach primarily like you do the cost of the Etrac would just not help you any. You have a winner already!
