Upgrade List

Rob (IL)

New member
Here's the upgrade list that AK1234 (Anne) posted. Italics are mine.

Added:
polar plot
prospect scan
Stereo mixed mode I like this one.
soil selection (normal - salt)
loop selection (only helps on the depth reporting, but not on seeing deeper) It is really accurate.
You can set up the various screens independently - if you want one screen to have VDI, icons, etc off to make the graph larger, but the search screen to show VDI, icons etc, you can do that. This is really great.
languages
quick reference

Removed:
Program transfer I never used it.
Recommended gain I never used it either.
That's all that's in my tracking list that was removed, and I don't remember doing any more. Can't get to the calibration screen anymore, but you wouldn't want to do that anyway.

And tracking is a little slower. I don't know but something is working better.
Audio volume ranges expanded. Go as loud or soft as you want.

Thanks Rob! This should help a lot of people make their upgrade decision.

No more suggested gain, that is correct. It really served no purpose and so many people misunderstood or used it for the wrong purpose so it was dropped.None of the guys who were testing used the feature. It shouldn't be used to test coils and you can run hotter than it suggested with no trouble. They hoped it would stop some confusion. [attachment 160062 Reading.gif] Rob

Was any hardware added? Are the Vision/Spectra V3 Motherboards the exact same with the exact same chips on them as the ones AFTER Nov. 2009?
.

My V3i I am using now is in a Vision box. I've had the V3i in both Vision and V3 boxes. As far as I know there are no component changes. Anne or Carl might give an experts answer soon. Rob

The only parts that are changed is that if it is a very early machine, the screw seats in the pod will be replaced. Remember some screw wouldn't tighten. This has nothing to do with the upgrade. It is just Whites doing their usual customer service. Remember it has to be a very early model. The rest is software, no component changes. [attachment 160120 Reading.gif] Rob

Larry @ Big Valley Metal Detectors has been out with the updated V3i several times and reports the V3i to be significantly smoother and he is able to achieve more Rx-Gain/discrimination sensitivity running. Loves the new Polar Plot and uses it in conjunction with the Analysis Screen.

Several months ago, I was testing earlier V3i software and was impressed with the Polar Plot. I had a long talk with Anne on some of my other suggestions and apparently she made good on them.

That is all.

Just remember, Whites never claimed it was deeper , smoother, quieter, or would find more treasure. :detecting:They also never claimed the polar plot was better than the analysis screen. I have my favorite features and others will have theirs. For instance, I don't use the polar plot much. When we were testing they asked if any of us used the suggested RX. We all answered NO. I'm waiting to see peoples opinions when more people get experience, mine is a thumbs up.[attachment 160353 Reading.gif] Rob

This could only be a partial list:

1. Settings for ground/mineralization type
2. Mixed Mode headphone response is All Metal in left ear,Disc. in right.
3. Coil type being used, can now be registered (with machine) for a little more accurate depth readings with some coils.
4. Polar Plot gives an additional screen for analyzing.
5. Foreign language choices.
6. Taking away recommended RX gain suggestion.

There's a list. This is only what I am aware of. (May need addition or minor correction.)

I'm in no rush to upgrade because what's there in 1.3 is just fine for me right now. Like Ron has said...nothing that affects fundamental operation or performance with this. Main 'Bigger Picture" important change is languages.

The main purpose with the V3i is the "International" version of the V3, specifically the foreign languages. The other little "perks" are nice, but none of them are anything I would use, need or "have to have" in my opinion. It is nice that White's is making the upgrade available to V3 users for a modest fee, but unless there is a feature you just have to have, I suggest waiting for the other national service centers to get set up for the upgrades and use your V3 finding goodies in the mean time.

I put the full list at the beginning of the post. Rob

Was at the Dealer and he was showing me the new V3i and I thought he said and I think I saw it had the Coin only program removed also. He made the comment about reason for removing things was to better allocate the newer programming.

Regardless my Vision has been sent back for problems I was having and upgrading and I feel very lonely without it, my MXT just isn't a V3.

It was just thought that it was the least used program. Easy to make the program from the coin and jewelry. It really had no affect one way or the other on the programing. I really never paid attention to which one made it in the final version. We discussed a 4 tone coin program also and the MXT program. I really don't use any of them. Most people build their programs from either the C/J or Hi Pro program. [attachment 160398 Reading.gif] Rob

Actually the "coins" program was... or is a program that will work well when even C&J is unstable. You are right though and i'll just make a copy of it and replace some program that I don't use.

J

Lower the sensitivity of C/J from 88 to 80 and you have the same stability. All the rest of the 2 programs is the same except what you want to disc out or leave in.[attachment 160411 Reading.gif] Rob

I think the coin program is still there in the library.

Yes it is. It's just not in the main list. Rob

Hi all, When you send the v3 in for the v3i upgrade will you lose any custom programs you have loaded in the machineor will they still be there?

IMHO yes you will lose anything you have saved. Every time people had upgrades they lost their saved programs. Rob
