Upgrade from cibola to vaquero or tejon

I have a cibola now but really miss the all metal mode. Not really liking the 120 disc either. Is the vaquero 120 or 180? I think the dual disc would be handy with disc 1 in all metal and disc 2 just above iron.but I can get a black vaquero with the new coil for a decent price new .what would be the advantages of the tejon?

Even though the Vaq and the Tejon claim to both be 180 disc, the Vaq will still disc out some iron when turned all the way down. The Tejon has a real/legit 'all metal mode'.
And it IS nice to have the disc1 and disc2 to switch between.
(Note that at least on my Tejon, there's a good 2 second delay for the machine to 'catch up' with the disc 2 setting.)

In my mind, the only drawback to the Tejon is weight and battery cost...and that's offset by having a really nice balance.

Tesoro for years said it was 180 ED, but eventually recanted and changed their website description to reflect that.
It is more on the order of about 165 ED.

I recently acquired one of the Vaquero's with the new 11X8 searchcoil.
I may have got lucky with this particular Vaquero as it is smother operating than the others I have had. It ground balances easier too. I just crank the ground balance up into the positive range and back down till its neutral and away we go. It pinpoints nearly as well for me as the concentric coils. Although the 11X8 searchcoil is a widescan coil I am able to sweep from two directions and center the target with no problems. The coil is a little deeper than the standard 9 x 8 Searchcoil but this may be do to new coil being larger.
I really like this one.

As far as the Tejon is concerned, while I have never used one, it is my understanding it was designed is response to the Troy X5. I do have experience with the X5 and find it to be a great machine. Is is a little more temperamental because it pushing the envelope in regards to power and gain. From what others have said I think that the same is true for the Tejon.

It is possible to take a detector running in discrimination mode and set it to accept all targets. You are now running with zero discrimination, and the detector now sounds off on all targets. The problem is that some detector manufacturers are labeling this zero discrimination mode as an "all metal" mode since all metals are being detected.

Unfortunately, you have not really turned off the discrimination. A true all metal mode employs no filtering at all, it directly reports a target. In zero discrimination the target is still being filtered, but you are telling the machine to report all filtered targets as good targets. The bad news is you still are losing depth and sensitivity compared to the true all metal modes. The only true all metal detector that comes to mind would be Whites Sierra Madre......

I respect your opinion buddy, but my views differ a little. I have not used my Tejon for 2-3 years now. If I have, it was briefly because I love my AT Pro. However, I know for a fact that the Tejon is a very deep and sensitive machine from use on fur trade relic sites in mild soil. I also know that the Vaquero, in the right hands, goes super deep also. As I have stood five feet from a guy using one in wet spring mild northern soil and he was pulling up deep buttons etc. I kept my Tejon because it is deep and sensitive. Actually I just picked up the new 11X8 RSD coil for it and I plan on giving it some swings this year in the highly mineralized local soil. But My Tejon is more of a specialized machine to me now, a great machine, but not as versatile as my AT Pro. Getting back to the Vaq. If I had a do over I would likely grab a Vaquero. That machine is quite close in depth, about $150.00 cheaper, and is easier on batteries. I will admit now though that even with the new larger coil on my Tejon that it feels much lighter and better balanced to swing, than my AT Pro with the standard larger coil. Actually batteries for detectors are not much of a real world issue. Go swing a few tot lots and you have enough clad for fresh batteries, and the possibility of a ring laying in the wood chips.

You probably won't like the All Metal mode on the Tejon. It's a really slow auto tune speed and won't keep a steady threshold.

If you plan to hunt with the trigger pulled in all the time, then the All Metal will be a fast retune like you are used to on other Tesoros.

That's one reason I sold my Tejon. They really dropped the ball on that one for some reason....

You can just hunt with pinpoint button pressed in then keep disc just above nails to do a quick check simply release the pp button. I've ones multiple Tejons and V's and overall I enjoy the Vaquero the most. The 8x11 RSD really lights up every Tesoro I've used it own.

I found more stuff with my cibola then my vaquero and tejon....Why....because I owned the cibola longer !......if you have mild ground I wouldn't upgrade to a vaquero, you would not see too much proformance .......as you crank the vaquero into super depth mode you will dig more iron ! The tejon has some cool things going with it as it has tone/ pitch control so you can adjust the pitch to your likings...I liked that.....and having a trigger for modes/ disc control is nice...who carez about batterys that's the cost of treasure hunting..... However my tejon I had was kinda weak ......why I don't know...but it was too hot..... I really loved my cibola. It found a hand full of gold rings, pocket full of old coins and silver and a bucket full of Relics and buttons !
