Updated results fron "new" old park (Indian head park)

I've been amazed at the amount of older coins from this park. I'm sure it's been hit plenty in it's history (I detected parts of it over 30 years ago), but there are so many targets I find it hard to believe that they were all missed !! The topsoil is black and about 8 inches deep - under that is sand. Most of the coins are naturally in the topsoil. On my first few hunts during dry conditions, the soil was HARD and chalky - after the rain last week it's great diggin'.
The ratio of Indian Heads to wheats is "staggering". On most hunts I'm actually finding more IHs than wheats! Last hunt was 9 IHs to 8 wheats - the time before
that it was 11 IHs to 8 wheats.
The other amazing thing is the ratio of pre-1920 wheats. Out of 57 wheats, 33 are 1909-1919. Most of the coins I'm finding are 1870's-1920. Trust me, I'm not complainin' - I just feel lucky to have "rediscovered" this spot while just looking for someplace new to try.
I've done about five short hunts since Labor day weekend. I'm sweeping a bit faster than I should because there's so much area and I'm afraid some neighborhood
"do-gooder" will decide to try to have me thrown out. Most cops could care less' but they HAVE to react to a complaint and it could get sticky no matter who's "right".
I reswept an area that I had done last week to prove my own point about speed. Last week in this particular area I found a LOAD of IH, wheats, a liberty nickel, a Barber dime, a Merc and the LC token. When I reswept yesterday I came out with a '42 Merc, an 1899 liberty nickel, 9 IHs and 8 wheats (4 of them pre-1920).
My plan is to generally sweep the entire area (will probably take easily the rest of the year) then go back over it more slowly as a "go to" spot next year.
The silver count is still low - 3 Barber dimes, 2 Mercs and a ring. No larger silver, YET. I'm still optomistic because I've only generally checked less than 10 % of
the entire area.
My count so far: LC token, 38 IHs, 57 wheats, 3 liberty nickels, one buffalo, 3 Barber dimes, 2 Mercs, and a silver ring. lots of oddball artifacts too.
IH dates (pictur #1): 1864, 1875, 1879, 1884(2), 1885, 1886, 1887, 1888, 1890(4), 1891(2), 1892, 1893, 1895(2), 1896, 1897, 1898, 1900, 1901(2), 1902, 1903(3),
1904, 1905, 1906, 1907(3), 1908, and two "dateless" so far. (I'm considering trying to fill an IH coin book from this park!).
Thank for looking.

That has been an amazing site for you Bruce.

I bet you find a few more goodies before it's all said and done.

Keep on poundin' away my friend.

That's just amazing, Bruce!! :yikes::super:

I have to believe with so few silvers found, that many of them were recovered years ago. Not sure why someone would not want t dig Inodian heads! Unless they had screw caps discriminated out.....it that case they could miss those injuns and early wheaties. Or they just simply didn't have a detector powerful enough to get the deepies. Either way, you're making out like a bandit!!

Keep the finds coming....can't wait to see how many more you find!!
