Updated Mirage P.I now blasts high conductors as deep as gold

Just got the updates on the Mirage built by Sven, and it has been truly improved , Before it was not good at hitting high conductors, for instance a dime was disappearing at only 5" but now its hitting hard at 6+ inches and this is amazing because it will still ignore the small foils . the gold ring in this test is the hardest Gold ring to hit as its only 10k and is the 1st to sound badd or not be heard when discing out foil. but its coming thru with a hard hitting signal not something i am straining to hear . and it can do this in ground that a VLF will falter on this was only on 3 gain i was so impresed i just made the video on 3 gain. have not tried the 5" coil or the 10" but I really think Sven is on to something now because its just as hot on dimes and silver as Gold

Gunnar, that is starting to evolve into a really interesting machine, have seen the various stages of development and can see a specif use for this machine,i also use Sven's small 5'' coil on my Crossbow pulse mainly for a couple of very highly mineralized site when the crops have just come off hence the small size to get in between the stubble.

Build quality is superb infact its better than some of my bought branded name coils, must admit that has wetted may appetite gain for a 7'' coil option.

Nice video, have fun..............................

Mega, the 7" coil is my preferred coil over the 10" now...it's a great little coil. I only choose the 10" when I need coverage on the beach, I would use the 10" more often if it wasn't so hard to pinpoint.
The 7" makes pinpointing easy and doesn't sacrifice too much coverage.

kaolinwasher, does the updated Mirage hit harder on low conductors? What does the update entail?

Very good video. Amazing how the mirage can ignore small foil.
I've got about 20 hrs on the mirage, haven't been on a serious hunt with it except a couple short beach hunts. Nothing worthy of posting yet.

When I first used the 10" coil my pinpointing was waay off. But remembering what Sven said about using the edge of the coil helped a lot, still not like the 7" though.
I'm still impressed with the build quality, well built with quality parts.

I looked at the pictures of the board that's in your water Mirage, it was the identical board that was in Gunnars.
The newest version boards are an upgrade to the one in yours. Some parts were changed out and and or replaced.
Added a couple mods. One being a selectable Pulse Width 10-12us (SG- small gold) what yours is now and selectable to 28-30us (Normal).
Which gives you better sensitivity and depth towards silver, copper, brass as well as larger gold but you scarifice very tiny gold type nuggets.
It basically switches it into a second detector. Better audio section. Then recalibration to different specs and the frequency is now 1500hz from 1000hz.
I can mod your board to current version, recalibrate to current specs. Overall will be deeper in both Pulse width modes than your current board.
PM mor email me.

One of my latest water units went down to Florida.
Here's the first report:

"Well, 6 hours, 4 on the wet sand/wash and 2 in the water up to the coil connector in depth. (Hesitant to dunk it on the first trip)
First impressions....
Unbelievably quiet as EMI goes. Clearwater Beach Pier (Florida) does drive a few machines wacky when going under the pier. I did have to bump the frequency knob slightly but all was well after that adjustment.

Pinpointing with the 10.5" coil was a learning process but I remembered something I read about the edge of the coil, that did the trick.

To soon to determine how deep the machine with this being my first trip out with it. I don't think I got anything today I couldn't have with the CTX but that is just a guess.

I dug everything but lost a few in the water due to size of the target....

I need to put another magnet in my scoop now, I am digging bobbie pins again...

Bottle caps and coins (and rings) sound off very well, I can't determine which is which yet but I really thought there were some subtle differences....maybe more time on the machine will help,

I broke the machine in right, I got gold ring and silver ring, ear stud on the first hunt!

Not much in the way of targets but that is how conditions are right now at Clearwater.Overall, I'm really happy with the hunt. Yeah I dug some bobbie pins and some wire/crab trap pieces but I got more good targets then trash. Coin count was good even if most were pennies. I've learned with the CTX NOT to miss out on penny signals, I've got 3 really nice gold rings in the past year that read perfectly like a zinc US penny.

The Mirage even with the 10.5" coil is easy to swing over the sand and in the water. I can only imagine how easy the 7.5" will do in the water but right now with the conditions on this and one other beach, I need the 10.5 for coverage....I've got a couple of beaches that are real trashy and I believe are hiding gold rings between the trash, I'll give the 7.5" a try on those beaches.

Thanks again, this is a real fun machine!"

Looks like i may be adding a Mirage to my detecting arsenal, the plan is to use the 5'' coil to start with then go for the 7'' to complete the package, dont need any bigger coils at the moment as i have my heavy hitter Crossbow PI,but mainly wanted a Mirage for fine jewellery and small finds on a highly mineralized roman site that VLF hardly find anything.

((kaolinwasher, does the updated Mirage hit harder on low conductors? What does the update entail? )))) I would say just as hard on low conductors. but before i could not disc out a gatorade foil top and hit a dime past 3" deep and now even at a 3 PD discing out some real heavy foil i can clearly hear a 6" deep dime , this just blows me away .and i have a 10k gold ring that amongst my several test rings is the hardest to hit so i make it my bench mark for testing the PD setting and i can still hear that ring at 5" with a 3 pulse delay also how fast it ticks can give more or less depth . let me tell you I will pay the bobby pin tax as opposed to the foil tax and any sports feild cuz I am not going to miss any gold rings and i will not miss any silver dime s now or silver jewelry to me this is a perfect machine for such places and when i took it out to the sports field it was just bliss it just pounded in a nickel i found and yet bobby pins it will make a scratchy sound when they are about just past 3", but if a gold ring was under that bobby pin you would get a solid centered sound you can tell if something worth investigating is next to Iron most of the time I know I am privileged to have one of this machines. i also noted that the SG mode hits harder on small gold Items , , i was using the 7" coil but for maximum sensitivity the 5" coil would do a lot better another thing is even at 0 PD it will egnor most small foil that i would be digging with a VLF , -- yes you can disc out a foil cap but I am hear to tell you you will not hit a gold ring 3" under it if your disc is on this is what i find so cool about the mirage it will and can see thru foil and hit good targets like a dime down to 6" deep draw back if you can call it that is small iron at 1 - 3" will go off loud but is best pinpointed on the edge of the coil and lets face it a bobby pin on the suface will mask a good target below so I am willing to pay the bobby pin tax.

yup, I've come to the same conclusion using the Mirage...beats out digging microscopic foil blobs that drive me nuts when using my VLF machines. At the outset of using a PI on my beaches, I wasn't sure which would be more pervasive, small foil or iron?...after using the Mirage and VLFs side by side for a good while, it's clear - small foil is more prevalent and much more annoying to dig.

Looks like I'll be getting the update soon!!!

thanks kaolinwasher for the update and Sven for an awesome machine!

Thanks for the new video showing the upgrades Kaolinwasher. I must admit, your videos was one of the biggest reasons I jumped on the opportunity to get a Mirage (water version) from Sven. Although I still hunt with a VLF, my eyes are opening to the "advantages" of a PI in detector arsenal. I'm the guy that Sven quoted on the Mirage water machine hunt. Hunt number two wasn't quite as good only due to no gold found but the interesting finds continued..... I have so much to learn on this machine and being retired, nothing but time to learn.

Please keep up the videos and passing on of tips on the Mirage .....

Sven, super build quality on those machines...... no fear now after 6 hours yesterday with the controls box under water!

Mounting my control box and 5'' coil on a straight carbon fibre shaft,if all goes well it should be finished and this coming weekend will be its 1st outing for a few hours, subject to the wife being well enough, not been out for a few weeks but i am hoping the small coil will be like a laser beam on small items.

Gunner what type of depth are you getting with your 5'' coil on say a ring size find ???

Gunnar, just been doing some foil test with the Mirage and not once has it picked it up with the small 5'' coil, but when you pass a gold ring or anything gold or silver it really gives a massive signal, really starting to like this detector alot and its really enjoyable to use a Pulse as a beep and dig detector.

Its very sensitive to small gold targets and pinpointing is spot one.

Looks like your a believer now...LOL.............have fun, hoping you'll find some of those old Roman gold coins..........
