Update to the software update.

I called the factory and talked to the engineers,John Gardner and Dave Johnson.I was told this update happened fairly early on.This is when you go into factory preset or default;the descriminate # is now 15 instead of 10.That was the only value I was told they updated on.
Mike scott later called me and told me the same thing.Mike was very helpful and went to bat for me as I had to send my machine in for service.
Hope this helps as alot of yous might have known about this software update. Good luck, Steve

I have a new F75 in the mail for next week, If it says 10 instead of 15 does it need to go in to be Updated..thanks james

Hi James,
No, I would not worry about it.The new default just bumps up the descrim # higher now to 15 instead of 10 on the early models.
I wish you great success with your new F75.I am a newbie also that just bought mine in late fall.Have to wait till spring , everything is froze tight up here.Take care, Steve

I wouldn't worry too much if anyone has an F-75 with factory preset disc set at 10 if this is the only upgrade made., You can always bump it up to 15 and since the F-75 retains it's last settings it will always bounce back to 15 disc and what ever other settings you use.

I think I'm going to get me another F-75 this year, Darn good machine.

Hello Steve and thanks for following through as you promised.

In my case i have had the F75 for just over a week and the default straight out of the box is set at 10 for discrimination.

Going by what you have said i must have a machine which does not have the updated software which is strange since if the update took place fairly early on then a brand new machine bought in December of 2007 should have had the upgrade, although being in the UK it could have been imported before the upgrade I'll give my supplier a ring to check this out.

Anyway as you say it should not be a problem because the discrimination will be changed to suit the conditions of the site where I'll be so from 10 to 15 or whatever takes just a few seconds.
Happy digging, take care. Mart.

Hey Mart,
Your welcome, no problem.I found out late thursday what the update was all about. And Saturday was the first time I could check my own machine against what Fisher told me.Guess what, my machine still comes up on default of 10 descrim.Whats this about? It certainly is not a big deal to me but I would like it to be so if thats what was said.Maybe I will do some follow up.
So dont worry about yours Mart; it is what it is.A great machine. Good luck to you, Steve

Hey Stevie, just had a thought what it might be.

There was some comments about the older software not having enough iron discrimination on the F75, not as good as it's older brother the T2 for example.

I wonder if in response the version 6 software for the F75 addressed this by changing the old 15 discrim value to 10.

In effect this would give you a wider or greater discrimination value to select from giving the F75 a more useful 5 points with more capacity at the right end to mask out iron if you see what i mean.

Anyway as you say it's no big deal the F75 is one hell of a machine.

Happy digging, take care. Mart.

This is good info, I like hearing that so many like this machine..Makes me feel good about my purchase, How do you guys like the smaller coil, I ordered it also..

I was told version 6 default is now set at 15 descrim so that the new guys new to detecting would dig less iron and not get as discouraged with it using it right out of the box.But hey as long as I can adjust it I really shouldnt care. Take care ,Steve

You made a good purchase, read and reread your operators guide.Follow the posts here. There are a lot of great guys here willing to give their expertice out.
I dont have the small coil yet but I heard it is dynamite in heavy trash areas and it goes pretty deep also.Good luck, Steve

Thanks guys, I got it TODAY..Talk about a sweet looking machine very impressed and took it for a quick spin in the yard
Turned it on and the Discrim went to 10 hummmm I just got it 1-7-08 Surely it was'nt just sitting around kellyco for 6 months, I been hereing the F75 is flying off the shelfs..Anyway glad I seen you guys post, Its nothing to set it to 15, I gotta learn the machine and functions, so many to choose from and try out..thanks folks..now back to studying the book manual..james..

I amost hunt with the disc on 6 so who cares if you can change it.
