Surgery is scheduled for March 20th, 10:00am.
This surgery is very serious. Brian's tongue has moved back into his throat restricting his airway. To reduce the tumor the tongue must be removed from the bone and re-attached. It may not stay re-attached to the tumor and could move back again. This could result in a permanent tracheotomy. They may have to do a trache for the surgery anyway if they can't get the tubes down his throat.
They said he will lose a lot of blood and require a transfusion. We will go give blood before the surgery. There will be a lot of swelling which could obstruct the airway. He will be in the hospital for 1-2 weeks on IV antibiotics to fight infection. Infection is a very high risk in this type of surgery.
There is a slight possibility he won't survive the surgery. The doctor said he has never lost a patient but it is a possibility.
I know doctors prepare you for the worst up front. But the risk is real and very serious.
They could have done the surgery next Tuesday but I declined because I want to spend time doing things Brian wants to do before the surgery. We will go to movies, eat at his favorite restaurants, etc.
Most importantly, Brian has asked to be baptised. I was baptised when very young and will be baptised again with Brian. His face lit up with the biggest smile when I told him we would get baptised together.
God bless you all and thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers!!
