Update on our situation

Well after deciding the squeaky wheel gets the grease I made enough noise, politely so far but my patience with some people is getting very thin, we got Mom transferred to a full time nursing unit at her retirement center. She'll be there until she can get up and move around by herself again. Then we have to see whether or not she is still capable of living in independent or has to be moved to assisted or Alzheimer's care. Doctors are still doing the three stooges routine 'cause I think everyone is covering their legal behinds. I've made a few pointed remarks about the fact that there IS a human being in the middle of all this. Really sick of the whole system right now.

Your story is an all too familiar one...Bro Pete has been through a lot like you have and also became disgusted with the drs and medical system! We live in a sinful world and only lots of prayer will change things for the better! Ma Betty

Well, i officially lost it with a few so called "health proffesionals". I get to the nursing home to discover that her doctor has just prescribed the bloody medicine that landed her there. For four days I have had unreturned phone calls and no doctor stopping for five minutes to listen to me. Now, the retirement home staff has listened but they are stuck with her idiots, I mean her doctors orders. So having a good head of steam up I opened the throttles and let 'er rip.

I have informed staff and nurses what will be the consequences of administering another dose and I don't give a tinkers damn what the resident idiot, er doctor orders. I threatened a doctors answering service with lawyers, lawsuits and insults if someone didn't get an idiot, er doctor, to listen to me for five minutes and voila! I suddenly had the on call idiot, er doctor on the phone trying to tell me why her reaction, which he didn't know the extent of, was probably just a normal side effect.

After delivering a full broadside he pulled in his colors and ran up the white flag and said he'd cancel the order. He told me that I really should talk to her regular idiot, er doctor, and I let him know that I had been trying to do exactly that for four friggin days and if said idiot attempted to administer said drug again and did not get hold of me SOON and LISTEN to what I had to say they will be talking to a lawyer bloody well soon. Now all of a sudden people are paying attention. What a pathetic mess this system is. My opinion swung pretty low when dealing with these over educated idiots when we were trying to get a diagnosis with my wife's MS. I now regard our medical system with horror. These fools will kill you with a few strokes of the pen and deaf ears. It's sad that you have to resort to legal threats and raised voices to get one to even pay any attention to what you're saying. I have been polite and couteous until today. That just ended...
What a shame. We have some of the best technology and tools and a host of incredible medicines but the access to it all is often controlled by fools.

It sounds as if your outburst was well warranted. It's like you said the doctors are just scared to death of lawsuits and don't want to go the extra distance for their patients. Let's not even get started on the health insurance companies!
I pray that your mom finds the right doctor who will be able to correctly diagnose and treat her.
