My sister has a place with two old homesites, I'm going there Monday to give it a try. There's an old stone cellar hole on one site so it seems to be old.

Then there's this old cemetery i've been taking care of because my ancestors are buried there. I stopped in to tell the landowner so he knows why i'm parking there on his land. I plan on doing more work, uprighting the stones, etc. Today i found flowers at dollar general for 6.00 in a basket so i bought 2 and i'm going to take them out to great grandpa and grandma. Anyway about the owner, he said said fine, no problem about parking there, and was very friendly, so i asked him about hunting an old home site on the property. He was fine with that, too. I was surprised, because he's rich and everyone said he's hard to get along with. But he seemed friendlier than most, probably because i'm taking care of the cemetery. My husband and i, hes been great helping with it. He helped clear all the fallen trees and uprighted a few stones, my husband is great that way. But i'll be hunting that old home site soon with the upcoming good weather. Can't wait to update you all. One thing for sure, don't be afraid to ask permission to hunt, it's not so bad. I asked another guy and he said yes, also. Luckily, i've read a lot on here about digging small holes. Plus i acquired a pinpointer. That helps a lot with making small holes, i can't believe the difference. I sure don't want to make big holes. Well, HH everyone, i'll post anyting interesting that comes up.

Hi Penny its nice to hear from a fellow female hunter. I too had an experience with a property owner who people said was a grump but turned out to be very friendly. I think he just appreciated being asked for once to enter his property. The people who said he was a grouch had asked to deer hunt on his property, he told me his deer are sacred to him and he enjoys them just the way they are. Good luck with the new sites!

Well there is an advantage to being a lady. People are not threatened as much by a lady asking to hunt. But I don't think a woman should hunt a property by herself. Probably not a good idea for a man either.

Hi Treasurechic,

Thanks for the welcome. Great to be here.

Thanks everyone for the other comments. I did find some coins and posted them on another thread, its called 3 coins, 4 cents, because one coin was a 2 1864 two cent piece. Hope to go back again when i have more experience, may find more.

The other day i was hunting at an old abandoned restaurant where kids have began to vandalize. Nothing but junk around there but i was hunting behind the building and an old yellow truck with a loud muffler and two guys and a girl pull into the lot. So i came out from behind the building into sight, because if they came back there i did't want to be be trapped out of sight of the public road. They saw me and pulled out, so maybe they had intended to check out my car, or maybe they just forgot something and was turning around there.

I never carry much money, but the detector is worth $700, so i guess a detectorist would make a pretty easy target, especially a lady. But all this digging is building muscles, (or at least making them sore) so they better be careful, LOL. No seriously you folks are right, WE have to be careful. I've got a permit, and a .38, if i go along i'll take it next time. Hate to have another thing to carry, but you can't be too careful.
