Got the all clear to hunt at my son's primary school today. It didn't take long to figure out that it had been done over pretty good fairly recently. Fortunately, it was only cherry picked. I was mostly picking up small denomination coin out in the open areas of the bark chip area, nothing bigger than a 20 cent coin.
Anyway, it was time to engage stealth mode on the Ace. Dropped the sensitivity down to between one or two bars depending how close I wanted to get to the play equipment and that's when the fun began. Most of the larger denomination coins were found in fairly close in next to the equipment and probably a quarter of all the coins I found today (60+ coins for a total of just over $19). The Ace may only be your basic detector, but the fact you can get in so close with it, even with the large coil as I did today really holds the Ace in good stead. As Minelab tend to dominate the Aussie market, particularly with the Sovereign and the explorer, all I can say is "Onya minelab", keep promoting it, 'cause it can't hold a match to the Ace for this sort of hunting!:minelab::thumbdown:

I don't like discussing other machines on the Garrett forum, but I will say that the Minelab machines don't fair well at all with our Canadian clad. If I switched to Minelab, I would miss out on an easy $500.00 in my clad. Not good..... :nono:

I hear you John. I felt like a bit of a swipe, 'cause schools over here are off limits unless you get permission, and we've had a lot of interlopers through town lately who think nothing of jumping fences and detecting where ever they please without asking, and they're usually swingin a Minelab.

Yeah the Ace gets in closer. With a Sun Ray probe it gets even closer. I find a lot of coins up close to the metal equipment.
