I decided to try out again a semi-regular of mine, a boating beach nearby my home. It's a narrow sandy beach in a quiet bay. After a couple of minutes a young lady approached me with a huge smile. She called me "Mine-Sweeper Man" and asked me to find a horseshoe she said her friends had lost playing horseshoes a few weeks ago and she would reward me with a dollar.
I tried the place she outlined for me. After gridding out the place carefully I spent a good 20 minutes ... nothing. So I gave up and continued hunting for coins and jewelery. I was almost done and back to my starting point when i got a nice HOT signal. Sounded like a quarter or half dollar. I dug down about 6" with my scoop and nothing. I then used my pocket trowel and went down to 10"...still nothing. Then at 12" I saw a bit of rust .. and there sat a lovely, slightly rusted horseshoe!
I took it back the 50 yards where the lady was lounging. "Lost a horseshoe?", I asked. She insisted against my strong protest to give me that dollar. I would have preferred keeping the horseshoe ..but it's hard to beat the nice feeling of returning a lost item.
Anyone else have a story? Please post it.
