I was detecting on the farm where my Great- Grandfather lived and dug up what I thought was a small watch case. After a lot of cleaning, I saw that it is some kind of coin holder (Seated dime was not included). The center is spring loaded and would hold from nickles on down, probably 4-5 of them. It was probably worn on a chain around the neck. Maybe it was used for something else, but coins fit in there nicely and slide right out. Ron

Could indeed be a coin holder....maybe for a "Love Token" That way you dont have to put a hole in the coin....

condoms used to come in little round metal containers and this would be a discreet way of carrying them instead of in the back pocket.

In Australia they were known as a Sovereign Box - they were designed to hold gold sovereigns. Have a good look inside the lid as many were made by silversmiths and hallmarks could help date when it was made.
