Today I made one of the most unusual Civil War fines since I have been relic hunting. I was using my X-Terra 70 with the 10.5
DD MF coil and was hunting the Cloyde Mountain Battlefield (located on private property). After about 25 minute hunting I recovered a 58 cal Yankee three ringer from about 9". The TD reading was 36. I moved about 20 yards and located a TD with very unusual numbers. When I swung from left to right I got a reading of 34 to 22. When I swung back , right to left, I got a reading of 36. I then moved to my right and swung the coil from a different direction and got a solid 44 TD. I removed a 5" deep by 8" wide plug and swung the coil over the hole and got a solid 44. I then removed another 4 or 5" of dirt and uncovered a confederate two ringer. As I was removing the dirt around this bullet I discovered a second bullet. As I removed the dirt from it I realized that it was a fired 58 cal Yankee three ringer. This is the first time that I have ever recovered a confederate and Yankee bullet from the same hole. Even more unusual I discovered after removing the 58 cal bullet, was a ram rod impression in the top of the bullet. The Confederate bullet appears to have been dropped.
PS I should have added that the confederate two ringer is at bottom right and the 58 cal directly above it is the one located in the same hole. The 58 cal on left of pic was recovered first.
