Unusual coin

I was using my Bandido II µMax at a locale school this afternoon and found a very unusual coin for me .At fist I thought that it was a silver quarter .It's a 2000 British two pound coin .around the out side rim it says “Stand On The Shoulders of Giants”I do not know how I missed this coin with my ML it was only about 2” down. You never know what you will find or where you will find it.

Its one of the dreaded UK 2 pound iron core coins, modern junk Micky Mouse coinage if you ask me,can corrode badly in sea water, certainly wont be around for hundreds of years like our old coinage for sure.

Nice strange find in Alabama! :clapping: I find a lot of foreign coins in totlots.. The kids take them to school and lose them I figure....

I think Mega meant that all of the modern coins including our US clad are junk 'Mickey mouse' clad things that quickly rot when they hit the ground or water...He didnt mean to disparage your find at all...

Mud

As mudpuppy has mentioned my terminology of using 'Micky Mouse' coinage is related to all modern junk coinage and was not aimed or intended at your specific find, modern coinage really can be desribed an many ways due to either the bad design or the material/s used in producing them. Some of our 1 and 2 pound coins can be eaten away very quickly in a just a few years in the wrong soil condition or sea water.

Of course my comment was not aimed at anyone just a general description of modern coinage as a a whole.

Nc coin,

Nice coin for the USA!!!!!!!!!!!! i love the foreign coins!!!!!!!!!!! itsa a special treat for us.

mega B we all understand i think. silver coins were stopped in circulation in 1964 here. some areas where i live are hunted out past our machines ability. the old pros got them or they sunk or whatever. it takes a scrape to get whats left of them. foreign to us it beats the usual modern clad. my granddaughter loves show and tell and they work for this!!!!!!!

we all hate the modern junk... wait until its all on a card --plastic--like Sweden has proposed.... HH and best wishes to all ...carey

I wish that the US had higher denomination coins like the UK, Canada and Australia. Also it would be great if people used & lost them like the rotten zincs,
dirty clad dimes and quarters. It would make clad stabbing worthwhile.

I

Cool "travelers coin" find. Have snagged a few from WWII era and some more modern British ( 10 pence ) and a $1 Jamaican coin both on elementary school grounds.

Congrats,

Come up North, across into Canada, we'll show you how to hunt for our junk coins, especially those $1 and $2 coins that just happen to fall out of everyones pockets like pennies in the US...
well almost...LOL Funny thing about it those coins really ID as junk, most US visitors to Canada wouldn't even dig them..................and if your disc is too high, you'll miss everyone that's on edge.
Now if you come up here with a Tesoro detectors, your 5 up on everyone else. They love Canadian junk coins, one of the best clad hunting brand of detectors on the market. And I am more than happy,
our club members and many other Canadians would rather own a Garrett, White's, First Texas product, Minelab than a Tesoro. Think they have the notion Tesoros are still toys.............. or what the heck is that silly machine.....

Clad hunting up here is a good alternative when nothing else is biting.

sven, you are right about Tesoros and trash I had hunted this same 20'x20' spot with my x-terra four times and three different frequency coils I got a bunch of coins but I missed this one and a hand full of other coins.I had my Bandido II umax with 8"brown concentric set at min dis to knock out the nails sill got ever thing else loud and clear

Here here to the tesoros hitting hard on the $1 & $2 coins in Canada. The Vaquero gets them every time if you know what to listen for. On my last outing before freeze up I hit a coin spill of 6 newer Canadian coins $1 $2 two @ .25 one .10 and a .01 for a total of $3.61 out of one hole. The $2&$1 coins were on edge on the side of the hole and were the second recovery the first being 2 stacked .25 pieces then came the penny and then the dime last.
It was one of those times that I was glad that I swept the hole again as the PPpro did not find the others and had me thinking of the times that I forget to check the hole again in AM mode.
Pulltaber I too get a kick out of finding foreign coins and have two ,1 pound coins this season and a 2 euro coin and mexican coins.

Love to find the high value and foreign coins.
