Well.... it's 3:18 a.m. and I am finally posting our finds....sorry SooperDave....I know you were anxiously awaiting!!

We had an opportunity to go back to the house where I found my first LC. We didn't find much of anything except one really interesting cut coin token. I was able to read enough of it to determine it was a Canada Sous Penny Token 1837 to 1839 (http://coinquest.com/cgi-bin/cq/coins?main_coin=1069:geek:. I found about 1/4 of it and searched the hole for the rest but it was all by its lonesome. Oh well...it's old and cool anyway!!! Oh yeah...and I did find a crusty 1945 British penny....thought it was gonna be another LC. NOT!!

Over Labor Day weekend and a few hunts this past week...Rob and I got to cross some things off our bucket list!! And oh boy...did Rob hit it big!!

We were fortunate enough to meet Joann. Her family grew up in this beautiful home she so graciously gave us permission to hunt. We eagerly got started and Rob began to get some hits early. He found a buffalo nickel and some wheats and I was coming up empty. A little more time goes by and he shows me this incredible Miraculous Medal pendant. It was very special and I still don't know what metal composition it is...there are no markings but it sure has held up nice. Here is a link to the story behind it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miraculous_Medal. Next he finds an 1884 Indian head penny....my turn my turn.

Finally...I got a good signal and out popped a beautiful shiny 1913 Barber dime.

However, Rob always saves the best for last ...he has had a phenomenal year of detecting. It's unbelievable but his determination and patience always pays off. He called my name and said he found something special... a half dime. I said "you did not find a half dime!". He only said that to get my attention. He said it's a Spanish reale. I went over to check it out and I said "oh it's just a slug or fake of something." He said "no.. it's something special." I still doubted. One side was worn smooth, nothing legible on it at all but the other side definitely had some sort of interesting emblem on it. And there was no doubt it looked like silver. When we got it home, I noticed that the coat of arms on this dime sized disc looked familiar. I started Googling all sorts of things and then BOOM....there it was a Spanish reale!! I looked at the picture... I looked at the coin....and sure enough... Rob found a Charles the IV Spanish 2 reale. The date is not legible but the coin falls between these two dates 1788-1808! I think we were both in shock .... I mean who would have thought a Spanish reale would be here? I cannot even begin to tell you how happy I am for Rob to find this. This is a find of a lifetime. Just INCREDIBLE!! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_real).

And .... <drum roll please>....... went to an early 1900's house this week....a beautiful tudor style home...just gorgeous. It is right next door to a place we have detected many times and I was told we could go detect it. NICE SURPRISE. I didn't even ask. I found a Mercury dime pretty early in my hunt and then just a few minutes later...nice shallow quarter signal...and looking back at me was Lady Liberty ...... that is Standing Lady Liberty!! Yay Yay Yay!!! I finally got one. I could only make out the last number which was a 9. I believe it's a 1929er!! It only took me a year folks. ha ha ha. I was super happy to finally find her.

It has just been a spectacular summer for both Rob and I and YES we are having a ton of fun!!! Thanks and sorry I wrote so much!! I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Ugg...it's 4:17 am. I better get to bed!! Happy Hunting everyone!!!

Congrats on all the great finds !
Sorry you guy's find our hobby so boring !

All I can say is WOW!!!!! A HUGE Congratulations on you and Rob's finds, Betty! What a spectacular year your having. By the way, I'm gonna guess your Quarter is an 1919. It looks for consistent with wear on the pre-1925 SLQ's.

That barber dime is in awesome shape! Again, congratulations are in definite order!

NebTrac

Well it was worth the wait! You two have been making some awesome finds! That Barber dime is a beauty, the Spanish 2 Reales is an Incredible find! And what about another great first find for you, a stunning SLQ! It feels great to look down and see a find that you have been day dreaming about. Great job guys, keep it up! So what's next on the ole wish list?

yep, she's on FIRE! :thumbup::beers:

congratulations to you and Rob, I appreciate your story telling as well. Thats what its all about right there. Makes me want to get out there!

I enjoy all off your posts and look forward to the next but now you are just showing off HA HA. You guys are killing it !!. Another great group of finds, I agree with Neb Trac the SLQ looks to have a raised date making it a 1919 not a 29 either way a great first for you! Just wondering was the reale found near a major river as all I have heard about around here are along the Mississippi river. Mostly near old trading posts or barge crossings, congrats and HH Dave

if that is a 1919-S then thats a pretty darn valuable coin. you are so lucky to have found a pre '25 SLQ with some sort of legible date, those are very hard to come by! right out of the ground that coin would be worth at least $50-$75. (?)

Wonderful write up, fabulous finds, great pics! :clapping::clapping::please: Its been a lot of fun watching you guys tear it up this year!
Mud

Great finds! Your bucket list sure appears to be shrinking fast.

Thanks again...everyone to your responses and I was surprised to find out that the SLQ was 1919. I don't know why I just assumed it would be 1929. And it is an S. I could see that clearly. Very cool!!

To answer Deep Down Dave - No, it wasn't by a river at all. Just a fortunate find at an old place. Rob is a phenomenal treasure hunter!!

I'm glad you all enjoy reading about our adventures as I have just as much fun writing them. I should probably print them out and put them in a memory book for Rob and I to enjoy as the years go by. It's funny...we look at our coin book from all our finds and view them like they are photo albums. "Awww Rob, remember when I found my first wheat penny?" ha ha ha

Quote for the day: "You are always free to do something that makes you smile".

HH!!
