Unkown Badge, My First Thought Was Freemason...Any Thouhgts???

I found this cool badge today and I really have no idea what it is. I assume it is some sort of badge, it looks as if it would attatch to something at one time. My first gut feeling when I saw the design on it was Freemason, but after a bit of reseach I dont see any Freemason sybols that look anything like it. I didnt take it pictues of the backside, however its just like the front with no writting of any kind. The site it came from is fairly old, All of my finds from the site date from 1880-1960 with no modern items found. ANY Help would be GREATLY APPREICATED!! :)

since the back is blank and smooth it would have been attached to something maybe furniture

Chuck, furniture decoration crossed my mind also. However the symbol seems very specific, it must have a particular meaning more than just decoration.

You said both sides are the same, right? Whatever it was part of, you would've seen both sides of it from different angles.
