unkowm from the woods

It is the precussion firing pin for a hand grenade. the two pins were where the hand clip was , the small hole is what help the pin. you know where you used your teeth to pull the pin, then release the clip wait a second then throw it. like John Wayne.

I would guess it is a fuse off a smoke/thermite grenade as the Frag grenades are usually flat sided down the threads and yours has a duck bill.

Thanks,
Yes, I had both those in mind, thinking more along the lines of a m18 maybe, but the age is not easy to figure out for at least.
strange thing to randomly find in a park though! I find mostly bullets, SG shells and slugs out there. I dug up a gun the other week, but half way through the dig realized it was a toy.
It was a Leslie Henry 'Ranger' toy gun 1955 about 6 inches down! had me excited for a minute, till I got to where the butt should be and it was all strange looking. But it was in hard packed dirt.
Back to the Grenade,it has an 'N' and 'S' on each side of the lug. you can see the 'N' in pic three in lower right corner, don't know if that tells you anything..?
