it's made of some kind of metal and about the diameter of a silver dollar. no markings. any ideas appreciated. thanks

It looks like the things James Bond ejects from his Astin Martincar to flatten the tires of a pursuing car.

My real guess would be a top or toy. A real guess, though. Where did you find it?

Chris

So more or less my first guess was correct? Nice find!

It looks like the stars used to stop calvary attacks they whould spred them across the ground . the horses whould step on them bad news for the rider.

It does look like a caltrop, but all I've seen have only four points so that one always sticks straight up. This one has six and is pretty small for anti-cavalry use.

But I don't know......pretty cool find regardless!!

Jacks
Description of equipment
All that is needed to play the game of Jacks is five jacks and one ball. The jacks are just a more modern representation of knucklebones or stones from the game described above; each one is a( six-pronged) , metal form with bobbles on the end of each prong - a three-dimensional cross. The ball is bouncy and should be somewhat bigger than a jack.

This may be a prelude to the game of "JACKS" the earlier games I believe were more solid than they are now- Perchdoctor
