Found this morn. It's 1.75" wide and 4" long heavy copper piece.

It is a blind retainer clip from a sea chest from a Boston furniture manufacturer circa 1850s. Pull up on the exposed t part to release. 2 slots are for bolts to hold it in place. Notice the slanted edge at top of inner square part. This was to make it easier to close because of the tight tolerances. Ben Franklin invented it. Damn, if I keep this BS up I might start believing it myself. 😉 If nothing else it's a chunk of copper for recycling.

After cleaning it has the letters FBP.
