Unknown object

I found this in an old farm field. It do not know what it is -- any guesses?

It is hollow and filled with rotten wood. It is extremely heavy and appears to be chrome plated lead.

Back in the day ,when I was knee high to a cricket, [late 50`s]my gramps had a pair of plow mules which were hitched up to an elaborate harness[ home made by him ]which had similar looking pieces on top of the neck yokes that kept the reines from drooping! Hope this helps!Keep searchin`!
