Unknown lead object

I found this lead object recently, near an old RR depo where much civil war activity took place. Wondering if this could be a part of an artillery shell. The hole is one half inch wide. Many thanks.

My first thought is a spacer or possible a washer of some type???
 
Possibility it could be the old lead end of a antique automobile battery cable connection. May be, but maybe not. Hopefully not.
