Unknown Emblem...

Well-known member
Howdy--

I dug this emblem a few years ago and ran into a dead-end trying to identify it. My first thought was that it was an old car emblem but I couldn't find a match. It appears to be brass with enamel inlay. Any ideas? Thanks! Best of luck and...

Some family's coat of arms or it could just be a generic COA for decoration.........

It looks like an US Army Unit Crest. It might one for a Reserve Unit, what does the back look like?

Howdy Larry--

Thanks for taking a stab at this mystery find of mine. The Lion and the Viking Ship have always intrigued me. It may very well be a COA and nothing more. Best of luck and...

Howdy Ant--

The reverse shows 2 places where it was affixed to something. I don't see any lettering in the usual places. Thanks. Here is the reverse. Best of luck and ...

I brought a Zippo lighter once that had a COA emblem about that size.

IMO that's a US Army Unit Crest, when I was in the US Army the unit crest was worn on the US Army Ball Cap, Garrison Cap, and on the lapels of the Class A uniform. It has two pins that affix it to the cap or uniform.

Howdy Abnackimac--

I placed the emblem on one of my "replacement" Zippo's and it does fit. It may be a little too tall though for the standard size Zippo. I believe that the top of the emblem would be exposed to the flame upon lighting. To your knowledge did Zippo make larger lighters? Perhaps it's an emblem from a different brand of lighter? That's an excellent thought that it may be a lighter emblem. Thanks for your input! Best of luck and ...

Thanks for your input and the link! I checked all 2207 unit crests and unfortunately I didn't find a match. I DID find a match for at least one of my other unidentified finds though! THANKS! Perhaps it is a crest from a different branch of the military? I'll work on it and if I find a match I will post it. Thanks for your help. Best of luck and...

Now I can see that it has different attachment points than a US Army crest or most other pins.

What does COA stand for? Certificate of Authenticity?

I have been doing this for a while and its use in these post escapes me--BAC

This broche has the same pattern in the shield part, just different colors. Not associated with anything that I can find, however, the Viking ship in the upper left could mean a Nordic origin.

Howdy Abnackimac--

Thank YOU! I've wondered what that item was for at least 15 years. I remember within a few feet of where I dug it. Now that I know that it is a part of an awesome piece of jewelery, I'll have to go back to that sight and see If I can find the rest of it. Interestingly, I dug that item only about a foot from a curb at vacant lot, which is often the resting place of large trash items. If the rest of it was there it probably still is. Abnackimac, I appreciate your effort in identifying this long-time mystery item! Best of luck and...

Larry, after seeing abnackimac's photo, I believe that your are right: Family COA or generic COA for decoration. Thanks for your input!
