Unique stick pin

steelheadfever

New member
Hello I am the wife of steelheadfever. We were hunting an old site in our home town. The site has been the home to numerous homes and business's since the late 1800's. Most recently the site had a store on it and it has been torn down for something new. This is the same site that my husband found his first silver dollar yesterday.
I was hunting with my MXT and I was using my 4.5x7 Excelerator coil. We had been hunting for about a half hour and had only found a few 1940's Wheaties, when I got a strong penny signal. I dug down about 4" and recovered this odd little figure. It was a winged man, who has a pot belly and is holding a torch above his head. On the bottom of the figure it was marked Moline MP plow company
When I got home I plugged the name on the figure into the computer and found that it was the trademark stick pin for the Moline plow company. The trade mark was registered in 1868. The trade mark is called the "Flying Dutchman". I also found that the item he is holding up is an ear of corn and not a torch. I am doing more research on it. This is an unique and interesting find for us and I thought you all might enjoy seeing it. HH Bonnie in Idaho

Hi Bonnie,

Congratulations, that truly is a unique find. Yes, I enjoy seeing all kinds of finds, especially the unusual ones. Don't you wish some of the things we unearth could talk or at the very least they should be accompanied by a written history. Hope your "Flying Dutchman" has a high collecters value.

Good luck and continue to have fun, Bob
