Uniprobe ??

I just got my uniprobe in the mail today and boy was I jazzed. I put the battery in and turned it on and cannot get any reaction to metal. It appears to be a very straight forward piece of equipment, and I have played with the adjustments - there is absolutely no response to metal.

Am I doing something wrong or did I get a defective unit???????
 
Don't sound right to me. I set the threshold to where it's just clicking, then it really sings when metal gets near the probe.
