Uniprobe pinpointer

Anyone use a Uniprobe pinpointer with their CTX? Is there a particular way to set the probe up? Where do you set the Threshold or the Frequency? Should any of the CTX settings be changed when using the probe?
Thanks,
Gary

YOU need not change a thing on your ctx3030 .The uniprobe works very will whit the 3030 .JUST USE THE INSTRUCTION FOR SETTING THE UNIPROBE. THE UNIPROBE IS NOT ON WHEN YOU ARE HUNTING.

The Uni Probe works excellent and you may have to use a adapter with it or you speaker will not shut off with the headphones plugged in. I made a cord I use that has a L shaped plug so it is not in the way and get broke off by accident.
You may have to adjust the freq on the Uni Probe if there is too much chatter when using them. This is a very impressive Probe built into a great set of headphones and has the best depth of any probe I have ever seen.

Yes they do come with the L shaped plug, but unless there is a difference in the newer Uni Probe that on the CTX 3030 when plugged in the headphones work, but the speaker also still does too as it wont shut the speaker off. It has to do with how the CTX 3030 is wired up and why most headphones do the same thing other than the Koss that come with the CTX. Sun Ray and a Gray Ghost make the right ones for the CTX and maybe the newer Uni Probe does too, if they do I don't know about it.

What is a uniprobe, is it like a sunray probe, is it a probe that is hooked up to the detector so you can tell good and bad targets apart???

Love mine.. Been using it for a couple years now...

I've been using the Uniprobe pinpointer for 2 weeks now and I find, so far, that it doesn't seem to be any better than the Garrett Pro pointer except that the target sound comes through the headphones. When using the Uniprobe I find it will not "see" very light foil, unless the probe touches the foil directly or is extremely close, that the ctx and the Garrett Pro pointer will "see". The foil registers on the ctx between 12-01 through 12-04. It can be very frustrating looking for something that the Uniprobe can't find but the detector sounds off on. Also, if the Uniprobe doesn't sound off, do I stop looking for the target that the detector "sees" because I have to assume it's light foil? Anybody else have this happen to them?

I'd suggest you try tuning your Uniprobe again until it will pick up the small foil. I don't have that problem. What I really like about the Uniprobe is it is only hot at the tip and is about an inch or so deeper than the Pro Pointer and Pro Find.

We just had this conversation on the Detectorpro forum http://www.findmall.com/read.php?11,1969186

No problem.. . It is not pretty, but it is functional.. as far as the small bits of foil, where I hunt I don't run into that as much but I can tell you I have found lots of little balls of foiland some have been quite small, I imagine if you hunt parks a lot you're going to be looking for those little things like that in case it is jewelry. I would adjust the sensitivity up a little bit higher to see if that helps you out

I also say to re-tune your Uni Probe as when you turn it on there should be a slight threshold pulse if set correctly. The beat will get faster when it close to any metal letting you know it is seeing a target, if you are running it silent search then the depth is not real good and it probably be like the Garrett probe, but set correctly I know I can get over 5 inches on a coin size target and small like BBs around 2 inches or more.
When the battery gets low it become unstable and hard to set the threshold plus I can not use rechargeable 9 volts in mine, but mine has to be around 8-10 years old now, so maybe there has been some changes for the better with the new Uni Probes.

Just a question! Does the Uniprobe come with a holster? If not, where is the probe held when detecting?
Here is a picture of a holder for the Uniprobe. I got a flashlight holder and an 8 inch long, 3/4" dia. pvc pipe with an end cap. The probe fits perfectly. I attach the holder to my belt, but could be attached in many ways.

I think I've read all of the posts in this thread, and I think I understand this probe, but I'm going to ask a dumb question anyway: when you have the Detectorpro headphones plugged into your machine (an E-Trac in my case) and you switch to the probe, do you hear a matching tone? Meaning, if I have a 12-45 silver tone with my metal detector, will the pinpointer produce the same sound like the Sun Ray inline probes, or is it just a generic tone that sounds the same for coins or nails or pulltabs, etc.?

The Uni Probe is not tied into the detector like the Sun Ray is, so it is single tone which is a pulse signal that will get faster as you get close to any metal target. It is not a disc probe and will sound off to anything that is metal and make recovery so fast whether it is a trash target or a good target. To me it is a excellent pin pointing probe and one of the best I have used.

Thanks for the explanation. I really like the Sun Ray inline probe, but it was almost useless because of my chair. The only time I could use it without it picking up my chair was if it was a deep target on the far side of the hole. I'm in the market for a new set of headphones, and the built-in probe function is appealing. The cost is prohibitive though. Guess I'll stick with my propointer for now.
