Union of S. Africa ?????????

I found what appears to be an old lead pin (ill try and upload pics later). It is about 1/2 inch wide by 1 inch tall.. it has green paint on the back and the front looks like what appears to say "THE UNION OF S. AFRICA".. etched into the bare lead face. I thought it was a trash item until i cleaned it up and recognized the writing. Does this make sense to anyone????

I don't know what your pin is from the description, but there is a definite 50 year window for dating it.

As a consolidation of Southern Africa British colonies under one government, the Union of South Africa lasted from May 31, 1910 to May 31, 1961 when South Africa became a republic. The republic was formed after a vote by whites, who wanted to separate from the Commonwealth of Nations because of criticism of their apartheid policies.

Political or Pride pin perhaps?
