Unidentified button

Greetings. Wondering if anyone can id this button,found at 8-9 inches in central New Jersey ? Kind of an abstract eagle/turkey or guessing even a middle-eastern design? Thanks.

Looks like something from the wars with Mexico..eagle, 2 snakes, sabre, and cannon balls???
But what would it be doing all the way up there???

Snakes, sabre? ...................... An eagle holding a sideways anchor in it's talons is a Navy button and the cannon balls designates a gunner or artillery, probably from the 1800's. Size and markings on the back could narrow it down further.

Larry, I'm still soaking the button in olive oil,hoping to bring out more details. There's no back left, must've long ago disintegrated. Thanks for the Navy angle, I now see the sideways anchor. Will research that, too.

I could not find the exact button in Albert's button book because you have lost a lot of detail on yours, but on Ebay if you type in brass navy buttons, you will find several that are close. The big difference is the ring on your anchor is large. Good luck.

If the back is gone, then it is a modern steel back that rusted away.

Most likely quite early in the modern period. Would you say...1900-1910 ?. .
