Unfamiliar with platinum

landman

Member
OK been MDing since 1997 and got out for 10 years so I have not had the chance to find a platinum ring. Would someone share with us what "950" means and on an Excalibur, what the sound is akin to.

950 means that the ring is 950 parts out of 1000 parts pure platinum with 50 parts other metals or 95% platinum. I've found 4 platinum rings in the last 2 years and they sound on the high side of the gold tones with my Excal and are always a very solid hit. Other Excal users have said that they felt platinum sounded on the low side of the gold tones but this could have something to do with the users hearing or hearing loss in my case as well as the shape of the ring.
