Uncle Willy or Anybody(GTI Question)

I read and search the archives of this forum all the time. I have printed and placed into a binder many particularly good posts. In reviewing some of this material, and with the recent discussion started by the poster who was thinking about trading his 1350 for an Ace 250, I kept coming across the statement that the GTI 1500 is the best coin shooter out there. I also saw lots of posts that called the 1350 an excellent coin shooter. I never see any posts that call the 2500 a great coin shooter. In fact, on Garrett's site they call the 1500 the "World's foremost coin shooter." I can understand that Garrett wouldn't want to label their top end machine (GTI 2500) a coin shooter but what gives? Is the 1500 a better coin shooter than the 2500? Why? I don't want to write more for fear of influencing your reply.

Thanks as always.

Chris

The 2500 is a great coinshooter or any other kind of shooter but loaded with more features than needed for that task. The 1500 was specifically designed for coinshooting and jewelry and does a great job of it. the 1250/1350/1500 are all the same detector aside from profiling and imaging on the latter two. The 1350 is a great coinshooter but the imaging on the 1500 gives a little more info than the profiling on the 1350. Hope this answers your question.

I was pretty sure my statement about Garrett not wanting to refer to their top end machine a "Coin Shooter" was close to the mark. Are there functional differences between the 1500 running in discriminate mode and the 2500 in the same mode with the same settings?

I considered both rigs and went with the 2500 primarily for these three reasons:

1. I wanted the extra large coil which came in the package. I have found could live without this coil for the type of hunting I do but I am getting better with it.
2. I liked the sound of the true all metal mode and I do find myself using it more and more at certain sites.
3. I liked the buttons on the 2500 and not the flat panel on 1500. That is a personal preference but I really do dislike those flat buttons.

I have been using the terms profiling and imaging interchageably and will stop that immediately.

Is anybody out there offering anything close to the imaging on the 2500 and 1500? I seriously can't imagine being without it now.

Chris

The 1500 and the 2500 in the discriminate mode are brother and sister what makes the 2500 different is the ground balance and the true all metal mode which will make it a deeper hunting detector in that mode. As of now there is no other detectors on the market that can do what the gti's can do. Not even close! Most all other detectors use a number scale for target ID.
Happy Hunting !

And I just wanted to add that the true all metal mode will still give a visual target type probability (cursor)......a lot of other machines don't have this option. They just beep and you have no idea what will come up.

Thank you Terry and John. I value your input and have gotten a lot of help from both of you in the the past! It is always good to get answers from as many sources as possible. Truth of the matter is when I was looking over the Garrett site and they, themselves, called the 1500 a great "coinshooter" it got me to wondering. Uncle Willy gave the answer I was hoping to hear when he called the 2500 an "everythingshooter." I hope to run into somebody swinging a 1500 some day so I can try it out. I'll gladly hand over my 2500.........for a while.

Not much difference in the two in disc mode except depth. I like the buttons better also. Never was crazy about the tactiles on the 1500. The all metal on the 2500 puts it in a class all its own and it goes really deep and it is no-motion all metal and I like the Fast Track ground balance. Saves on the "pump and tune" scenario. Nobody else offers imaging as Garrett has the exclusive patent on it.

Yeah there's a difference between profiling and imaging. Only thing with imaging is the limited choice of coils whereas the profiling works with any coil available because it doesn't require an extra receiver in the coil. A small imaging coil would be nice but it's tough to squeeze a transmitter and two receivers inside a small coil.
