Well, I played with that wireless headset tonite. I plugged it into the ACE 250, followed the instructions, sequencing the buttons in proper order, and I had a wireless system working. It beeped when it was supposed to, and "BOINKED" on coins and rings. The volume on the set was on full, and it was at a comfortable level. You get a whole variety of adapters, so you can runt the unit off a stereo, metal detector, radio etc. One of the wires actually has an in line volume control. The transmitter is about 2" x 4" and runs on a 9 volt battery. The headset uses 2 x AAA batteries. The unit also comes with an AC adapter for the transmitter to use in the house. I tried the unit on a small small hand held radio and the reception was crystal clear.
Well, what about the other Garretts? I tried it on the Ace 150, GTP 1350, GTI 1500, and GTI 2500. The ACE 150 gave the same output as the ACE 250 mentioned above. However, the GTP & GTI's gave out a strong signal...so strong that I had to turn down the volume considerably. The threshold had to be turned down somewhat on all the Green Machines too.
So....I think it will be a handy unit for the woods. The thought of not having my headset ripped off my head is one good reason to use it, not to mention the number of headsets which have shorted out from all that wear and tear from the strain of them getting ripped off. It will probably also be great in the winter, as if you hunt in very cold conditions, the headset wire gets very stiff, and again.....you put wear and tear on the wires, which eventually short out and break off.
Heck, even to use around the house to listen to "tunes" while doing the "Honey Do List" makes the purchase a good one.
I also had visions of training my wife in a park to metal detect, me siting in a lawn chair holding a cool beverage with a second set of headphones running off the same machine she is using. I would be in a position to say "dig it...it sounds good or forget it....it's junk" (another sip)
