...............what can you tell me about the new improved mineralized chip that Garret has been installing. I just sent my GTP 1350 in for the mineralized chip upgrade; as I'm in a mineralized area up here on the North West coast. Will it give me less performance in non mineralized areas? What characteristics in the detectors operation might change? Is there anyone out there who has used a detector with the new chip installed...........what can you tell us? I really like my 1350 and I'm hoping the upgrade will make it even better................a big thanks to all who respond.

The new chip will allow you to run in areas where previously the detector would give that overload (ringing sound) if the mineralization was bad. In areas with little mineralization it won't give you any real benefit. But it is nice to get the upgrade, as we all tend to hunt in various places, and it increases it's value should you ever decide to sell/trade it.

I had the new chip installed in my GTI 2500 about a month ago, and found little difference using it here, as I have fairly neutral soil. However, other reports from areas with high mineralization, state that the metal detector could now run in areas where it couldn't before. The new chip is being installed in the GTP 1350, the GTI 1500 & GTI 2500, beginning with models produced in the fall of 2006. There is a charge for the installation, and if you aren't sure if your model has the new chip, get the serial number off your detector and call Garrett.

Nothing changes except the detector is completely stable in highly mineralized ground. The chip was installed at the request of the folks in Australia who have some of the nastiest ground in the world, especially in gold bearing areas.

Thats one of the many great things about Garrett; they are always working to make our
machines better. Hopefully they will come up with a new improved version of the Ace 250,
maybe with extra coils.
