Unbalanced MXT fix

If you have replaced your stock coil with the lighter 6x9 DD, etc, you probably noticed it takes a lot more muscle power to keep and force the coil to be level with the ground. The coil wants to naturally raise off the ground two feet, when you relax your wrist and forearm muscles. It was becoming annoying...
Any easy fix, that I quickly made. Remove lower detector shaft, remove retaining spring clip. Cut a wooden dowl to 9" that will fit inside the lower detector shaft. Slide it in, then add a few ounces of lead weight (from a tackle shop, used bottom bouncer weights). Then push in a pc. of styrofoam to keep everything snuggly in place.Replace retaining spring clip.
My detector's coil now rests level with the ground and is a joy to use.

Actually I found the 10"DD coil to be lighter and easier to use. I personally haven't noticed it being a problem.... <img src="/metal/html/shrug.gif" border=0 width=37 height=15 alt=":shrug">
I'm glad you found a solution that works for you though.

I find it to be just the oposite--mine drags the ground so heavy that I have been renting my MXT out---I HAVE GOTEN RICH JUST ploughing small garden spots--I did have to replace my loop cover twice so far-----------Deathwindy1
