umbrellas in the civil war

Yes, a pretty obscure subject, I admit, but there have been so many umbrella slides (the round thingy that slides up and down the shaft and deploys/collapses the spokes/spines) found. I have two of them and have seen numerous others pictured on forums such as this. Most of them seem to be reasonably identical in size and configuration and diameter.

Were umbrellas issued to officers? Of both sides? Or were these personal items?
Have whole "skeletons" been found, or other umbrella hardware?
Don't know if I have seen CW photos of umbrellas in use, or not. I don't remember.

TIA for any further info.

I have found various parts here too in CW campsites.

I've got a whole pile of them, various sizes. Most have come from old homesites and civil war sites. Umbrellas were also very popular with the ladies at the time.
